4 types of ornamental plants that easily cause allergies and poisoning in children, parents should consider before planting

There are certain ornamental plants that contain chemicals which can cause allergic reactions, especially in young children who are highly sensitive. If there are children in the house, parents should carefully consider before purchasing or decorating with the following plants:

1. Dracaena fragrans (also known as Corn Plant, Lucky Bamboo, or Fortune Plant)

The broad leaves of this plant contain irritants that stimulate excessive salivation.
If a child accidentally tears off a leaf and puts it in their mouth, it can cause symptoms such as vomiting, depression, and loss of appetite.

2. Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta)

The leaves of the sago palm are highly toxic.
If ingested, they can cause vomiting, excessive thirst, stomach bleeding, blood-related issues, liver damage, liver failure, and even death.

3. Dieffenbachia (also known as Dumb Cane)

The leaves of this plant contain toxins that can cause a burning sensation in the mouth if chewed by children.
In cases of poisoning, children may drool excessively, vomit, and have difficulty chewing or swallowing.

4. Philodendron (Finger Leaf Philodendron / Buddha's Hand Philodendron)

This plant is very popular for indoor decoration because of its beautiful foliage.
If a child eats the leaves, they may experience a burning sensation in the mouth, lips, and tongue. They may also have difficulty chewing and swallowing, excessive drooling, coughing, and vomiting.
