A British Angler's Record-Breaking Catch: The 67lb Goldfish Nicknamed "The Carrot"

🎣 A British Angler's Record-Breaking Catch: The 67lb Goldfish Nicknamed "The Carrot"

In a moment that stunned the angling world, British fisherman Andy Hackett reeled in one of the most extraordinary catches ever recorded — a massive 67lb 4oz goldfish, affectionately known as “The Carrot.” This vibrant orange giant, a hybrid of leather carp and koi carp, has now earned its place in fishing history.

🐟 The Legend of The Carrot

The Carrot had lived in Bluewater Lakes, a renowned fishery in Champagne, France, for over 20 years. Planted there by fishery owner Jason Cowler as a special attraction, the fish was known to locals but rarely seen. Elusive and mysterious, it became a sort of myth among anglers — a prize few believed they’d ever catch.

🎉 The Moment of Triumph

Andy Hackett, a 42-year-old company director from Kidderminster, Worcestershire, was the lucky angler who finally landed the legendary fish. It took him 25 minutes of intense reeling to bring The Carrot to the surface.

“I always knew The Carrot was in there but never thought I would catch it,” Hackett said. “I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went side to side and up and down with it. Then it came to the surface about 30 or 40 yards out, and I saw that it was orange.”

The fish’s brilliant hue and sheer size left Hackett in awe. When weighed, The Carrot tipped the scales at 67lbs 4oz — nearly double the previous world record for a goldfish, which stood at 36lbs.

🌊 Respect for Nature

Despite the excitement, Hackett showed deep respect for the fish. After a quick photo, he gently released The Carrot back into the lake. His celebration? A quiet cup of tea — a fitting British tribute to a moment of triumph.

Cowler, the fishery owner, confirmed that The Carrot is in excellent health and rarely caught, adding to its legendary status.

“We put The Carrot in about 20 years ago as something different for the customers to fish for,” Cowler said. “She is very elusive.”

🧠 More Than Just a Catch

The Carrot’s record-breaking size has sparked interest in hybrid fish species and their growth potential. It also highlights the unpredictable magic of fishing — a sport that blends patience, skill, and luck.
