Jamie Laing admits ‘I’m really scared’ as he shares baby update
Former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Jamie Laing has opened up about the emotional whirlwind of impending fatherhood, confessing that the reality of becoming a parent has left him feeling “really scared.” Laing, 36 — best known for Made in Chelsea and his successful podcasting ventures — first revealed in June that he and his wife, Sophie Habboo, are expecting their first child (Hello! Magazine). The couple, who began dating in 2019 and married in 2023, shared the news with fans in a heartfelt Instagram announcement.
Jamie appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Monday (November 17), joining hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard to discuss both his baby news and his new book, Boys Don’t Cry. The book chronicles his previously hidden struggle with bulimia — a revelation that has been widely praised for its honesty and vulnerability (BBC News). He was joined on the sofa by his close friend Sam Thompson, the newly crowned I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! winner, who has publicly supported Jamie through his mental-health journey (ITV News).
“Do you think I’m going to leave my baby with him?”
Cat Deeley immediately highlighted the pair’s brother-like bond, joking that Sam would make the perfect babysitter once the baby arrives.
“The great thing is, you’ve got a ready babysitter,” Cat teased.
Sam protested instantly: “He would never. He would never.”
Jamie burst into laughter and fired back, “Do you think I’m going to leave my baby with him?”
Cat defended Sam, pointing out that he has experience caring for his sister’s children, adding: “He’s got experience with his sister’s little ones. Let him have a go.”
Jamie Gets Honest About His Fears
Ben Shephard then steered the conversation back to Jamie’s emotional state, noting that Jamie had written parts of his book for his unborn child.
“So how do you feel about the baby’s arrival?” he asked.
Jamie didn’t hesitate:
“I’m really scared. It’s so intense.”
He went on to share a surprising detail:
“I’ve just passed my driving test for the second time.”
Ben asked if this was so he could drive Sophie safely to the hospital. Jamie confirmed:
“Yes — because I lost my licence. If you go too fast on the road, it’s a problem. You don’t need a licence to have a baby, but you need a licence to drive a car.”
His honesty — funny yet deeply human — resonated strongly with viewers, many of whom praised him online for talking openly about fear, responsibility, and vulnerability during fatherhood (The Independent – TV).

A Heartfelt Gift for the Baby
As the interview wrapped up, Ben revealed that This Morning had a special present for the soon-to-arrive little one. Sam Thompson nearly exploded with excitement as he shouted:
“Of course we do!”
Jamie asked suspiciously, “What is it — did you get it yourself?”
Sam stuttered — “Umm, no” — before pulling out a tiny white This Morning baby grow.
The studio erupted with laughter and warmth as Sam said:
“It’s a little This Morning baby grow. I love This Morning, and you’re part of the family. We love you so much. Listening to you talk about what you’ve gone through… you’re going to help so many people.”
Sam added emotionally:
“You’re one of the loveliest people I know — and I really do mean that. Enjoy this, because I know it’ll be the first thing you put on.”

A New Chapter, a New Vulnerability
Jamie’s candidness about both his excitement and fear reflects a shift many fans applaud — a move toward men speaking more openly about mental health, fatherhood anxieties, and emotional growth (Radio Times).
With a baby on the way, a bestselling book, and unwavering support from friends like Sam, Jamie Laing is stepping into one of the biggest stages of his life — not with perfect confidence, but with honesty, humour, and a willingness to learn.
