Liwia’s Fight: A Tiny Warrior Facing a Rare and Devastating Disease

🧬 Liwia’s Fight: A Tiny Warrior Facing a Rare and Devastating Disease

At just three and a half years old, Liwia, a little girl from Poland, is battling a disease so rare that most doctors have never seen it: Alexander disease, a fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects the brain and spinal cord. Her diagnosis came like a thunderclap—unexpected, overwhelming, and life-altering.

Alexander disease is caused by mutations in the GFAP gene, leading to the buildup of abnormal proteins in the brain. For Liwia, this means progressive loss of motor skills, seizures, and difficulty swallowing. There is no known cure. But her family refuses to give up.

💔 A Family’s Plea

Her aunt and uncle, Marcin and Karolina Gardocki, have launched a titled “Liwia’s ONLY chance to fight Alexander disease!” to raise funds for experimental treatments and specialized care. The goal is to give Liwia a fighting chance—to slow the disease’s progression and preserve her quality of life.

“She’s our sunshine,” they write. “We will do everything to keep her smiling.”

🌍 A Community Awakens

Though the disease affects only a handful of children worldwide, Liwia’s story has touched hearts across Poland and beyond. Donations, messages of support, and shared prayers have poured in. Her campaign is not just about raising money—it’s about raising hope.

🌈 A Warrior’s Light

Despite her condition, Liwia remains joyful. She loves music, cuddles with her stuffed animals, and giggles when her cousins make silly faces. Her strength is quiet but fierce—a reminder that even the smallest warriors can inspire the greatest courage.
