Long-Term Study of Heart Rate Variability Responses to Changes in the Solar and Geomagnetic Environment

Research shows changes in solar and geomagnetic activity affect your heart rate and sleep patterns.

The Sun constantly gives off energy, and sometimes, this energy interacts with Earth’s magnetic field. Researchers believe that these changes, known as solar and geomagnetic activity, might influence the part of our nervous system that controls automatic functions like breathing and heartbeat.

Some studies suggest that when the Sun is more active, people may experience slight changes in their heart rate or even disturbances in their sleep-wake cycles.

One long-term study found that when solar activity increased, people’s heart rates changed slightly, as if their bodies were reacting to stress.

Other research suggests that these changes could also impact heart health and overall well-being. While the exact reasons behind this are still being explored, scientists think that shifts in Earth’s magnetic field or energy from the Sun might subtly affect how our bodies function.
Although these effects are small and not something most people would notice, they show how deeply connected we are to the world—and even the universe—around us.
