Man Mocks Wife for Gaining Weight after Giving Birth, Finds Her Diary after She’s Hospitalized
For as long as Lisa Thompson could remember, she had been a master of balance—effortlessly juggling her career as a skilled accountant in Santa Clara with the demands of a busy household. Even after a full day at the office, she returned home in time to cook, clean, and care for her husband, Chad. Her energy never seemed to run dry, and their home ran like clockwork.
Chad had always been proud of Lisa’s dedication, and for a long time, he’d even chipped in with chores. Their marriage felt like a true partnership—until the arrival of their twins, Lucas and Charlie.
After years of struggling to conceive, Lisa’s pregnancy had been a miracle. They had cried together the day the test came back positive, filled with joy and hope for the future. But after the twins were born, things changed in ways Lisa hadn’t anticipated.
She made the heartfelt decision to take time off work to focus on raising their sons. But instead of being grateful, Chad began to criticize her. What she saw as time spent nurturing their children, he dismissed as laziness.
“All you do is sit on the couch and chill, Lisa,” he said one afternoon, barely glancing up from his phone. “At least start working out! You've gained so much weight—it wouldn’t kill you to lose a few pounds.”
Lisa's heart sank with every jab. She tried to brush it off, assuming he was just stressed from work. But the mocking didn’t stop—it got worse. His words stung like needles, and the distance between them grew each day.
Lisa began to worry—was Chad falling out of love with her?
She noticed he no longer looked at her the way he used to. He stopped engaging in conversations, avoided her touch, and spent more time on his phone or laptop than with her. When she tried to talk about it, he would shut her down.
“Honey, I feel like something’s off between us,” she said gently one night.
Chad barely looked up. “It’s fine, Lisa.”
“Are you sure? I’ve just noticed—”
“Noticed what?” he snapped. “Can you just stop? Why do you have to poke your nose into everything? Spend that energy grooming yourself. Have you looked in the mirror lately?”
Lisa’s eyes filled with tears. “Chad...”
“What? Are you going to cry now? Make me the bad guy? Go ahead! I don’t even know why we’re pretending anymore. Look at your friends, then look at yourself. Why don’t you try a little harder?”
His voice rose in frustration. “Are you doing this on purpose so I’ll leave you? Are you seeing someone else? Where do you even go so early in the morning?”
Lisa stood frozen. “You think I’m cheating on you?”
“I don’t know what to think, Lisa. You don’t want to work. You claim it’s for the kids, but I think it’s just an excuse to sit around and eat. We could afford a babysitter. You just want to pig out and blame it on motherhood!”
He stormed off, slamming the door behind him. Lisa sank to the floor, sobbing.
Later that night, a thud echoed through the house. Chad rushed out, expecting to find a crying baby—but instead found Lisa unconscious on the floor.
“Lisa! Lisa, wake up!” he cried, shaking her. When she didn’t respond, panic seized him. He called 911 and rode in the ambulance beside her, wracked with worry.
The doctors later informed him that Lisa had collapsed from exhaustion, stress, and malnutrition. Chad was stunned. How could she be weak? She’s just been at home… hasn’t she?
When he returned home alone that night, the house felt emptier than ever. He wandered into their bedroom and began tidying up, trying to distract himself from the guilt gnawing at his insides.
As he pulled back the blanket, a small notebook fell to the floor. He picked it up and opened it—Lisa’s handwriting covered the first page. It was her personal diary.
He hesitated. I shouldn’t read this, he thought. But curiosity and remorse pushed him forward.
Hi there, PD! It’s your one and only owner! I’m finally a mom! I can’t even describe how amazing it felt to hold my babies. I hope I can be a good mother. Chad cried when he saw them. I know he’ll be an amazing dad... but I’ll try to love them so much they take my side anyway, haha!
Chad’s hands trembled as he turned the pages. Entry after entry detailed her days—diaper changes, midnight feedings, teething woes, and little victories. Lisa had poured her heart into raising their children.
Then he reached one that made his heart drop.
PD, I don’t know what’s going on. Chad doesn’t talk to me the same way anymore. He seems distant. Maybe it’s just work stress… but I feel so alone. I miss him.
Another entry hit him like a punch to the gut.
He called me fat today. I don’t know what I did wrong. I’ve been trying so hard to get back in shape. I don’t even recognize myself sometimes. Is Chad falling out of love with me? I’m scared.
Tears streamed down his face.
He flipped again.
I’ve been waking up early to work out. I even found this new gym that promises fast results! I’m so excited. I want to surprise Chad for our anniversary. Maybe then he’ll see how hard I’ve been trying.
And finally—
I’m so tired, PD. The gym people gave me all these supplements and a crazy diet. I feel sick, but I push through because I want to make Chad happy. But he still mocks me. Every day. I don’t know how much longer I can take it.
Chad buried his face in his hands, overcome with guilt. He hadn’t just failed as a husband—he had been blind, cruel, and unjust. She was trying… for him. And he had crushed her with his words.
The next day, he walked into the hospital room with a bouquet of Lisa’s favorite lilies and a handwritten card: “Get well soon, honey. The kids and I miss you. Home isn’t home without you.”
Lisa’s eyes filled with tears. “You brought flowers?”
“I did. And I owe you an apology for everything I said. You don’t need to say a word, Lisa. I was awful. You’re beautiful. You always have been.”
He wrapped his arms around her, and she hugged him back, trembling.
“I’ll do better. I promise,” he whispered.
When Lisa came home days later, Chad had transformed the dining room into a romantic candlelit space. A soft love song played in the background as he pulled out her chair and poured her a glass of wine.
Later, he knelt in front of her.
“Mrs. Lisa Thompson, may I have this dance?”
She nodded, and they swayed slowly, tears slipping down her cheeks.
From that night onward, Chad became a new man. He supported Lisa wholeheartedly, helped care for the twins, and never let a day pass without reminding her, “I love you just the way you are.”
Lisa still goes to the gym, but not to chase quick results or meet impossible standards. Now, it’s about her health, her strength, and her happiness.
And Chad? He never stops thanking her—for their family, for her love, and for not giving up on him.
What can we learn from this story?
-
Appreciate your partner's efforts, even the unseen ones. Just because someone isn’t working outside doesn’t mean they aren’t working hard.
-
Words matter. A cruel comment can leave deeper scars than we imagine. Kindness and understanding go a long way.
-
True beauty comes from love, compassion, and resilience. Lisa was beautiful not because of how she looked, but because of who she was—a devoted mother, a loving wife, and a woman who never stopped trying.
