Put socks on top of the air conditioner: Small thing, big benefits, especially on peak hot days

Using an Air Conditioner in Summer Without Knowing These Tips Is Such a Waste

During hot days, air conditioners often have to run at full capacity. However, after long periods of use, air conditioners tend to accumulate dust and bacteria, which can affect your health.

So how can you solve this problem?

Prepare one clean sock and a sponge (the kind used for washing dishes).

Pour a little floor cleaner (or dish soap) and some essential oil (or menthol oil) onto the sponge.

Put the sponge inside the sock, then place the sock on top of the air conditioner.

When you turn on the air conditioner, the essential oil and cleaning liquid will diffuse into the air, making the room smell fresh and pleasant. This simple trick can also help repel insects effectively.

If you don’t want to use a sock, you can use a small adhesive bandage (like Urgo) instead.

First, peel off the bandage and drop a little essential oil or cleaning liquid (whichever you prefer) onto the cotton pad in the center.

Then stick the bandage onto the air conditioner’s air outlet. The air blowing through will spread the fragrance, making the room air feel cleaner and more comfortable.

This method also helps repel insects such as flies and mosquitoes effectively.

Some Tips to Make Your Air Conditioner Cool Faster and Save Electricity During Hot Days

1. Use the air conditioner together with a fan
Using a fan alongside an air conditioner doesn’t consume as much electricity as you might think. It helps circulate the air better, creating a cooler environment.

When you first turn on the air conditioner, run a fan for a while so the cool air spreads evenly throughout the room. This way, you’ll feel cooler faster without needing to set the temperature too low. Once the room is cool enough, you can turn off the fan to save energy.

2. Block direct sunlight
On hot days, close the curtains to prevent sunlight from heating up your room. This will help your air conditioner cool more efficiently and reduce its workload.

3. Clean your air conditioner regularly
The air filter needs to be cleaned frequently to maintain good cooling performance, save electricity, and protect your health.

The air filter is easy to remove, so you can clean it periodically yourself without needing to call a technician.
