Put some in a bag of rice
The scientific name of the rice weevil — a common pest that infests stored rice — belongs to a species known for its incredibly fast reproductive rate, especially during the warm season when temperatures rise gradually. During this time, rice weevils lay eggs and pupate, which can be quite unpleasant to deal with, right?
So what should you do if your rice is infested with weevils?
The solution is actually very simple — just put a small “thing” (explained below) into the rice bag, and even after six months under normal storage conditions, your rice will stay fresh and free from pests.
Today, let’s learn 2 simple tricks to stop rice weevils from spreading!
1. The Scent Method
Rice weevils are extremely sensitive to strong smells.
You can prepare a small amount of garlic, star anise, and black pepper, then take a disposable face mask and cut off one end of it.
Next, put the garlic and spices inside the mask, then tie it securely with the ear loops.
Finally, place this “spice pouch” inside your rice bag or container.
The warm, pungent aroma of the garlic and spices will repel the weevils, making them leave on their own. This method is very effective and completely natural.
2. The Freezing Method

Rice weevils often hatch from eggs already present in the grains.
To eliminate them, put your rice into a sealed plastic bag and place it in the freezer compartment of your refrigerator for about 48 hours.
Exposure to such a low temperature will kill both the eggs and adult weevils, preventing them from developing or reproducing further.
Conclusion
After reading these two simple and cost-effective methods to prevent and eliminate rice weevils, have you learned something new?
