Sprinkle a Handful of White Powder into Your Kettle—The “Magical” Result Will Astonish You

I can’t believe I’ve been using my kettle for five years without knowing this simple trick!

Using a kettle for a long time often causes limescale to build up on the bottom and sides. Not only does this make the kettle look dirty, but it can also affect the quality of the water, slow down boiling, and increase electricity consumption. Drinking water with limescale over a long period can even increase the risk of kidney stones and affect your health.

Normally, removing limescale can be tricky, time-consuming, and sometimes even scratch the kettle. But there’s a simple, highly effective cleaning method using a “magical” white powder—baking soda. With this approach, you don’t need to scrub much, yet your kettle will be free of limescale in just a few minutes.

1. Prepare the Ingredients

You only need two simple ingredients: 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 small cup of white vinegar.

Baking soda is alkaline, making it a natural cleaning agent with strong limescale removal properties. White vinegar, being acidic, softens stubborn deposits and also acts as a disinfectant, killing bacteria effectively.

2. Cleaning Steps

  1. Add the baking soda and white vinegar into the kettle. When combined, they create a fizzy chemical reaction that produces bubbles. These bubbles help loosen hard limescale and debris.

  2. After the fizz settles, add 2 cups of clean water.

  3. Boil the mixture in the kettle. Once it reaches a boil, let it sit for an additional 5 minutes to ensure the limescale softens completely.

After 5 minutes, you’ll notice the water has turned cloudy and limescale fragments have settled at the bottom. Simply pour out the mixture and rinse the kettle with clean water. Your kettle will shine like new, completely free of limescale.

3. Extra Cleaning for Stubborn Limescale

For kettles with long-standing, stubborn limescale, you can take the cleaning process further while still using the same main ingredients—baking soda and vinegar.

  1. Add baking soda and vinegar to the kettle.

  2. Pour in half a cup of boiling water, 1 eggshell, and a slice of lemon.

  3. Close the lid tightly and shake the kettle for about 2 minutes.

During this process, the eggshell acts as a natural scrub, rubbing against the kettle’s surface to remove remaining deposits. The lemon’s acidity helps soften stubborn limescale, while also leaving a fresh scent and neutralizing odors.

Finally, pour out the mixture and rinse the kettle twice with clean water. The result? A sparkling clean kettle that looks brand new!

Extra Tips

  • For regular maintenance, try this method once a month to prevent heavy limescale buildup.

  • Avoid using harsh chemicals or metal scrubbers that can damage your kettle.

  • This method works for both electric kettles and stovetop kettles, making it a versatile, eco-friendly solution.

With just a handful of baking soda, a bit of vinegar, and a touch of lemon or eggshell for tough stains, you can keep your kettle clean, safe, and long-lasting. It’s a simple trick that truly feels magical!
