‘This Is Why No Man Want Her’: Tiffany Haddish Took a Girls Trip to Africa and Decided to get Married, and You Won’t Believe to Whom!

Congratulations are in order for Tiffany Haddish — she is officially a bride! But not in the way most people might expect. During an adventurous safari trip across Africa with her closest friends, the “Girls Trip” star decided to tie the knot — only the special someone was herself

Instead of a grand celebrity romance or secret rendezvous with a partner, Haddish pulled off the ultimate self-commitment ceremony — one that celebrated personal growth, self-love and accountability.

The nuptials took place as part of a real-life girls’ trip she took with three of her best friends — captured in her new Peacock docuseries, Tiffany Haddish Goes Off, which premiered November 13. In promotional clips of the series, viewers see snapshots of the travel-crew’s journeys through Africa, including Haddish walking down a makeshift aisle in traditional African wedding attire. At first glance it might suggest she met and married a “king” on the trip — but in fact, the ceremony was for her and her relationship with herself

In the series, she and her friends — namely Selena Martin, Shermona Long and Sparkle Clark — explore various locations across four African countries. While Haddish doesn’t shy away from flirting playfully with local “African kings,” the real discovery of the trip was that the longest, most reliable relationship she may ever have is the one she has with herself.

Later in an interview, the Emmy-winning actress described the event as a true testament to self-commitment. “If you’re going to keep any promises in life, the promises you make to yourself are the main ones you need to be keeping. That’s the longest relationship you’re going to have, and there’s no ceremony for you, to you. There’s no ceremony for that,” she said. “So, f–k it, I’m marrying me.”

But who did she marry? No one else. The “marriage” was symbolic — a vow to herself. While this gesture was intended as an act of self-acceptance, self-love and accountability, it has sparked divided reactions. Some fans applauded the creative self-celebration; others were more critical.

For example, one Instagram user commented: “People just be doing anything with their time.” Another wrote: “Seek help if you have to do this. Smh.” A third observed: “She’s not wrong, but something tells me the lineup for external marriage proposals wasn’t that long anyway.”

Despite the criticism, Haddish’s new docuseries isn’t just another travel show. The six-episode series follows her and her “day-ones” through once-in-a-lifetime adventures and candid emotional conversations — including openly addressing her personal traumas and public controversies.

At 45 years old, Haddish continues to face public scrutiny: two DUI arrests in 2022 and 2023, plus a social-media backlash earlier in 2024 during her Africa trip. Her relationship history including her breakup with rapper-actor Common (which ended in 2021) also continues to draw attention.

Ultimately, what Haddish has done could be read as a bold statement: instead of waiting for a traditional partner, she chose to honor and marry the most enduring partnership she has — the one with herself.
