Tips to keep peach blossoms blooming on the first day of Tet and staying fresh for a long time

🌸 Tips to Make Peach Blossoms Bloom Right on Time and Stay Fresh Throughout Tet
To ensure your peach blossoms bloom exactly when you want and stay vibrant throughout the Lunar New Year, try applying the simple yet effective tips below.
In Northern Vietnam, displaying peach blossoms (hoa đào) during Tet is a long-standing tradition. According to feng shui beliefs, the peach blossom is a symbol of good fortune, protection from evil spirits, and the promise of prosperity and happiness for the household. A beautifully blooming branch of peach blossoms marks the arrival of a lucky and harmonious new year.
🌿 How to Choose the Perfect Peach Branch
When buying a peach tree or a branch for Tet decoration, it’s best to measure the area where you plan to display it in advance. This helps you choose a branch that fits the space harmoniously—neither too large nor too small—creating a warm and balanced atmosphere in your home.
If you are buying a whole tree, select one with healthy, intact roots. Avoid trees with broken root balls, as they are weak and tend to wilt quickly. For cut branches, choose ones with a burnt stem base—this traditional technique helps seal nutrients inside the branch, allowing the blossoms to stay fresh and bloom more fully during Tet.
A truly beautiful peach branch should have a balanced shape, plenty of buds, a few leaves, and even small green fruits. This combination symbolizes growth, luck, and abundance for the coming year. With proper care, your blossoms can open exactly at the beginning of the New Year and remain fresh for days afterward.
🌸 How to Make Peach Blossoms Bloom Right on the First Day of Tet
Once you bring the peach branch home, don’t rush to untie it. Keep the binding intact to maintain the natural form. Mist the entire branch lightly for about 5–10 minutes to remove dust and rehydrate it after transportation.
Next, trim the base of the branch slightly using a clean saw or knife. Then, peel off a thin ring of bark about 10 cm from the base. For smaller branches, you can split the base into 2–3 parts using a sharp knife—this helps the branch absorb more water, promoting faster and fuller blooming. For whole trees, you can skip this step.
Prepare a clean vase filled with fresh water and mix in a flower-preserving solution (available at most garden stores). If you don’t have one, dissolve 5–10 vitamin B1 tablets in warm water—this works surprisingly well to nourish the blossoms.
If the weather is cold and the buds are still small, spray the branch with water mist 1–2 times a day and use warm water (around 40°C) to fill the vase. Hanging a few string lights nearby will also gently raise the temperature, encouraging the buds to bloom sooner.
❄️ What to Do if the Blossoms Bloom Too Early or Start to Wilt
If your peach blossoms start blooming earlier than expected, simply add a few ice cubes to the vase or around the root base to lower the temperature. Also, place the branch in a draft-free area to prevent petals from falling off too quickly.
If the branch begins to wilt or look tired, empty the vase completely, wash it clean, and refill it with fresh water (preferably saltwater or ionized water). Trim off about 10–15 cm from the base, then place it back in the vase. Within a day, the branch should revive and regain its freshness. However, if the flowers still appear droopy, it might be time to replace the branch with a new one.
🌼 A Final Touch of Luck
Peach blossoms are not just beautiful decorations—they represent joy, renewal, and family harmony. Taking a few extra steps to care for them ensures your Tet space is not only colorful but also full of positive energy and blessings for the year ahead.
By following these simple yet meaningful tips, your home will be filled with the soft fragrance and radiant beauty of blooming peach blossoms—welcoming a New Year of happiness, peace, and good fortune. 🌸
