11-Year-Old Designed And Made Dress For Her and Her Sister To Wear To Their Mother’s College Graduation
Meet The House of Holli — A Rising Young Fashion Visionary
At just 11 years old, Stone Mountain, Georgia native Holli Morgan is already carving out her own place in the world of haute couture. What began as a creative spark during quarantine has blossomed into a genuine fashion movement within her community. Holli first captured national attention when her project to sew hundreds of protective masks for people experiencing homelessness made the news—a compassionate initiative that echoed similar youth-led volunteer efforts highlighted by major outlets (USA Today). Now, she is channeling that same passion into designing custom garments for herself and her family.

Because Of Them We Can spoke with her mother, April Chevon Mcmillian, after Holli went viral once again—this time for a stunning handmade dress she created for her 8-year-old sister, Leila. Images of Leila posing proudly in the intricate design spread rapidly across social media, prompting thousands of people to share and celebrate Holli’s emerging talent.
“I’m having a college graduation ceremony for myself on November 14th, and she wanted to create a show-stopping dress for both her and her sister,” Mcmillian explained. “I always knew she was gifted, but I had no idea just how far her skills could take her. I’ve never seen her so focused and eager to learn the way she is when she’s sewing.”
Fashion has been an important thread in Holli’s life from an early age. She famously won “Best Dressed” in pre-kindergarten—an early sign of the creative direction she was headed. According to her mother, Holli began formal lessons at just eight years old through a program called Stitch It 2 Em, which teaches at-risk youth how to sew. As her interest deepened, she later continued with private lessons under the mentorship of seamstress Daphania Adams, whose training helped her refine her technique (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).
The now-viral dress Holli crafted for Leila took her an impressive two and a half hours from start to finish. But the true highlight was Leila’s enthusiastic reaction. She immediately began taking selfies and modeling around the house, delighted with the custom creation. “You can’t tell her anything,” Mcmillian joked. “She pranced around the house all day wearing that dress. Hence all the selfie pictures in my phone.”
When Mcmillian shared the photos online, the response was overwhelming. The post gathered more than 20,000 shares, and in just a few days Holli received four orders for the same design. Her growing visibility reflects a broader trend of young designers gaining recognition for their early work, a phenomenon noted in recent fashion coverage by outlets like The New York Times and BBC Culture, which highlighted the increasing opportunities for youth creators in digital spaces.
Beyond her talent, Holli is driven by purpose. Her mother shared that she dreams of a fashion career similar to young superstar JoJo Siwa, but she’s also proud of Holli’s community-minded mission. “[Her] claim to fame is her masks,” Mcmillian said. “She received popularity because she is making 1,200 masks for homeless people. Since she committed to creating that many, she designs her own clothing in between.”
Her dedication mirrors a wave of socially conscious creators—young people using art, fashion, and craft to support humanitarian causes (Associated Press). Holli’s blend of artistry and advocacy has already inspired many who follow her journey.
A seamstress with a mission—and a heart for humanity? Absolutely. Holli represents the next generation of designers who weave together creativity, compassion, and cultural impact.
For those who want to follow her evolving body of work, the growing brand is fittingly named Holli Hearts Humanity—a beautiful reminder of the passion that started it all.
