Where the Royals Live: King Charles Moves Forward with Plans for His Royal Residences Despite Family Turmoil
By Royal Correspondent | Updated November 6, 2025
Amid the latest round of royal headlines and speculation about the future of the monarchy, King Charles III appears undeterred in pressing ahead with his long-term vision for the royal residences.
It’s now officially confirmed that tickets for public visits to Windsor Castle are once again available — signaling that the King’s plans for accessibility and modernization of royal estates are in full motion (BBC News, 2025).
Royal Residences Continue to Welcome Visitors
The announcement arrives at a tense moment for the royal family, following weeks of media scrutiny after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his remaining titles and removed from Royal Lodge. Many wondered whether the Palace would scale back its public activities — but it seems quite the opposite.
Earlier this week, the Royal Collection Trust revealed that Buckingham Palace’s summer opening will run from July 9 to September 27, 2026, with pre-booking now live. Fans can also secure tickets to tour Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh throughout the upcoming year.
Alongside a photo of a sunlit Buckingham Palace shared on the official Royal Collection Instagram, the caption read:
“Plan your visit to the royal residences next year! Buckingham Palace will be open 9 July to 27 September 2026. Tickets are also now available for Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse across 2026. Let us know if you’re planning a visit next year!”
Within 24 hours, the post gained more than 1,000 likes and hundreds of comments from royal enthusiasts around the world. “I would love to!” wrote one fan, while another added, “I’m planning to visit the East Wing and State Rooms — but tickets aren’t available yet!”
A third follower simply dropped a line of heart-eye emojis, summing up the excitement shared by royal watchers across social media (The Telegraph, 2025).
King Charles’s Vision Carries On
Despite the recent controversies, King Charles remains focused on expanding public engagement with Britain’s royal heritage. According to the latest Sovereign Grant Report, the Summer 2024 season was a record-breaking success, generating £21.5 million in supplementary income for the royal household.
The report also highlighted a major milestone — more than 10,700 visitors toured the newly refurbished East Wing of Buckingham Palace during the special guided tours, marking the highest attendance since pre-pandemic years (The Guardian, 2025).
“The King has made it clear that his goal is to ensure the monarchy remains transparent, relevant, and accessible,” a palace source told BBC News. “These openings allow the public to connect directly with the living history of Britain.”
It’s evident that, even with internal family strains, royal operations are continuing without interruption — and perhaps even thriving under renewed public curiosity.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s Future Remains Uncertain
Meanwhile, the ongoing saga surrounding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor continues to dominate royal coverage. After officially relinquishing his dukedom and being stripped of his HRH style and the title of Prince, Buckingham Palace also confirmed the removal of two major honors: Knight of the Garter and Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.
Questions have since mounted about where Andrew will reside following his eviction from Royal Lodge, his long-time residence near Windsor Great Park.
According to The Times and Sky News, Andrew is expected to relocate to a smaller property on the Sandringham Estate, funded privately by the King. Royal insiders note that this move is intended to “draw a line under ongoing disputes” while maintaining family dignity (Sky News, 2025).
Betting platform Esports Bet has even set odds of 10/11 on Andrew’s relocation to Sandringham, reflecting both public fascination and the uncertainty surrounding his next chapter.
Sandringham Festivities Still Set to Shine
While family matters continue to unfold, Sandringham House remains at the heart of royal tradition. King Charles is expected to personally inaugurate this year’s “Enchanted Light Trail”, a seasonal event transforming the Norfolk estate into a dazzling winter attraction.
The show, featuring light installations across the royal gardens, symbolizes the King’s desire to maintain continuity and celebration, even amid turbulence (Hello! Magazine, 2025).
As one palace aide put it, “The King believes that the best way forward for the monarchy is not retreat, but renewal — by opening the doors wider than ever before.”
And with Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace once again welcoming the world inside, it’s clear that, for now at least, royal life goes on — with lights shining brighter than ever.
