Big Sean Releases First Book ‘Go Higher’ to Promote Everyday Mental Wellness
Big Sean Expands His Legacy With New Self-Help Book “Go Higher”
Big Sean is officially adding a new title to his already multifaceted career — author. The Grammy-nominated rapper, born Sean Anderson in Detroit, has just released his first book, Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace, a project that marks a deeply personal milestone in his ongoing journey of self-growth and mindfulness (Billboard).

Known not only for his lyrical talent but also for his openness about mental health, Big Sean has long used his platform to advocate for self-awareness and healing. Now, with Go Higher, he channels that passion into print, crafting what People magazine described as “a motivational guide rooted in authenticity and lived experience.” The book invites readers to dig deeper into their own lives and “invest in themselves the way they invest in others,” Sean explained in a recent interview.
With a thoughtful foreword penned by Jay Shetty, the bestselling author and mindfulness coach behind Think Like a Monk, Go Higher blends storytelling with practical wisdom. Sean outlines five key practices—accepting, strategizing, trying, trusting, and manifesting—that he credits for transforming his mindset and career. Each section is filled with reflective exercises and affirmations designed to help readers reconnect with their purpose and find inner balance (The Hollywood Reporter).
The Detroit native doesn’t shy away from vulnerability. He opens up about periods of doubt, burnout, and rediscovery, revealing how tools like journaling, meditation, and gratitude practices helped him regain his footing. “I had to unlearn a lot of habits that kept me stuck,” Sean writes. “Once I started being honest with myself, the healing really began.” According to USA Today, his book reads like a hybrid between a memoir and a wellness manual, offering both introspection and action.
Sean first teased the project on social media, saying it took him nearly two years to complete after an “eye-opening” conversation with Shetty. “If you told younger me I’d be sitting here with my own book, I probably wouldn’t believe it,” he captioned a post showing himself holding the first printed copy. “That talk sparked something in me — I wanted to share what’s helped me grow, not just as an artist, but as a person.”
Endorsements have already begun to pour in from the wellness community. Deepak Chopra, best-selling author and founder of the Chopra Foundation, described Go Higher as “a thoughtful guide to achieving inner peace and purposeful success,” praising Sean’s ability to make spiritual principles accessible to younger audiences (Rolling Stone).
Beyond its message of self-improvement, Big Sean is also using the book to make a tangible impact. Following the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, the rapper announced that all proceeds from Go Higher through the end of February will be donated to aid victims of the disaster. “Helping others is part of going higher,” he said, adding that the gesture is aligned with his belief in using success as a tool for service.
Now available wherever books are sold, including in hardcover, paperback, and audiobook formats (narrated by Sean himself), Go Higher serves as what Billboard called “a spiritual roadmap for the next generation of dreamers.” Whether readers are seeking motivation, healing, or clarity, Sean’s debut book offers practical insight into how faith, focus, and authenticity can shape a more meaningful life.
As he wrote in the book’s introduction: “The higher you go isn’t just about success — it’s about peace. Once you find peace, everything else follows.”
