Charlie Dizon details how Carlo Aquino proposed to her in Thailand
Charlie Dizon reveals that her engagement to Carlo Aquino happened in Thailand in 2023.
Charlie Dizon revealed that Carlo Aquino proposed to her in Thailand in April 2023.
In an interview with Metro.Style, the actress shared that the proposal happened when they visited the country during the Songkran Festival for her birthday.
"I didn't expect him to propose because we still haven't had a year yet," she told the magazine.
Carlo proposed to Charlie at a restaurant in Bangkok.
"I helped my best friend who is Thai there. Then, he doesn't want to dress properly. So I said, 'Get dressed! We, we were wearing polo shirts, and it was fine dining,'" Carlo recounted.
When Carlo was about to pop the question, his best friend asked Charlie what's next on their story as a couple, hinting about the imminent proposal.
"So the best friend [of Carlo] was standing in front of me. When I looked, he was already on his knees. So that's it, he's going to propose. So I can't believe it!" she recalled.
Charlie recalled that she was at a loss for words at that time when Carlo asked her hand for marriage.
"I thought, I said 'yes' immediately. Well, not yet. So he seemed to say, 'So what's the answer?' He said, 'Because everyone already knows it. Don't worry!' So I said, 'Of course!' I thought I really said 'yes' in my mind. It's like that, because I'm so confused," she recollected.
The Kapamilya star shared that Carlo also spoke to her family, who are based in the US, via video call before proposing to her.
"That's it, he said goodbye that he's going to propose, that's it. So before he proposed, he had a video call with my parents and my siblings," Charlie shared.
Carlo detailed that he was on his way to buy an engagement ring when he spoke to Charlie's family.
"The video call with her parents and sisters was funny. So from Commonwealth going to Makati, we will talk. Too much traffic. We talked for three hours, then his mom didn't want to believe that I was going to propose."
He went on: "Yeah. Because it's like they're thinking, 'Are you guys sure, because you're new?'"
Charlie remarked that her family's blessing was important to her.
"It's really necessary, go through them. And I was surprised that he said goodbye. So when he proposed, he actually said that 'everyone already knows it—in the US, that's how!' He said that. So, I was there, 'Yes!' And I didn't say 'yes!'" she stated.
Charlie and Carlo tied the knot on June 9 at a private resort in Cavite.
The couple recently shared a clip of their wedding vows on social media.
In his message for Charlie, the actor expressed his attitude towards the actress for saying yes to be his wife.
“April (Charlie's real name), my love. Today I want to thank you for your courage because you agreed to be Mrs. Aquino. I thank the above because He has not let me down. I prayed for peace and that's what he gave to your personality, dear," he shared.
He went on: "When there are days when our love is not equal, I will still not forget to love your personality and protect your heart. From this day you will not be alone. You always have a partner. I'm always here behind you or in front of you and will give you confidence. You are a blessing in my life, Dear. I love you."
Meanwhile, Charlie remarked that she is proud of them for making it through challenges together.
"I know our journey as a couple has not been easy but I am proud that we are here now in front of everyone who loves us genuinely," the actress remarked.
