Black Twins Threatened By Racist Bullies — Unaware They Are Black Belt Fighters
Naomi watched the young waitress quietly lower her eyes, then spoke in a steady voice. Please don't scold her. She has treated me with nothing but kindness. Ryan looked back at Naomi. There you go again.
What do you mean? Acting like you're somebody important. Naomi tilted her head slightly. I'm simply asking that you treat people with respect. The corners of Ryan's mouth curled into a mocking grin.
Respect? He laughed loudly enough for everyone to hear. You haven't earned respect. A truck driver at the counter slowly shook his head. Ryan ignored him.
Instead, he pointed directly at Naomi's table. That booth is reserved for the governor. Naomi answered calmly. I was told there was only a possibility someone important might come today. There is.
Then I'll gladly move when they arrive. Ryan slammed one hand onto the table so hard the coffee rippled inside her cup. No. His voice echoed across the diner. You leave now.
Naomi remained seated. Officer, may I ask something? You don't ask questions. I'd like to understand why you're asking me to leave before anyone else. Ryan stared at her.
Then his expression hardened. You really want the truth? She simply nodded. He smiled with open contempt. The truth is that this town knows who belongs here.
His finger slowly pointed toward her and people looking like you don't sit in booths waiting for governors. The words hit the room like a punch. Emily covered her mouth. The elderly veteran quietly removed his glasses. A young mother sitting near the window instinctively pulled out her phone.
Naomi didn't react. She only asked one question. Looking like me? Ryan shrugged. Don't play innocent.
He looked around making sure everyone was listening. A black woman wearing an old coat walks into a small town diner and takes the most important booth in the building. He laughed. What exactly did you think people were going to assume? The silence became unbearable.
Naomi slowly folded her hands. I assumed people would judge me by my behavior. Ryan barked another laugh. Not in my town. Emily couldn't stay quiet anymore.
Officer, that's enough. Ryan wheeled around. I said, stay out of this. She hasn't broken any law. Ryan took one threatening step toward Emily.
I can write you up for interfering with police business. Emily froze. Naomi immediately stood. Her movement surprised everyone. She positioned herself between Ryan and the frightened waitress.
There is no reason to intimidate her. Ryan's jaw tightened. So now you're protecting employees. I'm protecting someone who doesn't deserve to be threatened. Ryan stared at her for several seconds.
Then he smiled, a dangerous smile. You know what I think? Naomi waited. I think you're trying to make a scene. she answered softly. "No, officer.
I think you're hoping somebody important walks in and feels sorry for you. I don't need anyone to feel sorry for me." Ryan stepped even closer. "Then why haven't you left?" Naomi looked directly into his eyes.
"Because I have every legal right to finish the breakfast I paid for." The words landed harder than she intended. Ryan's pride took over. Around the diner, more phones quietly appeared. One construction worker whispered to his friend, "Keep recording."
Another customer subtly angled his phone toward Ryan. The elderly veteran rose from his chair and walked closer. "My name's Frank Holloway," he said evenly. "I've lived here 47 years," Ryan glanced at him. "So, I fought for this country.
Congratulations. I fought so every American could sit wherever they were lawfully invited." Ryan rolled his eyes. "This doesn't concern you. It concerns every decent person in this room."
Several customers nodded. Ryan noticed, his face darkened. You people really want to turn breakfast into a circus? Nobody answered. Naomi quietly picked up her notebook from the table.
Ryan immediately reached toward it. What's that? Me notebook. Open it. She looked surprised.
Excuse me? I said, open it. I don't believe I have any obligation to. Ryan extended his hand. Give it to me.
Emily gasped. Officer, you can't just take someone's property. Ryan didn't even look at her. I'll decide what I can do. Naomi gently held the notebook against her side.
It contains private notes. Ryan's voice became colder. Private notes about what? My observations. What kind of observations?
The kind every American is free to make. Ryan laughed again. So, you're spying now? No. Then handed over.
Naomi shook her head once. I'm afraid I can't do that. That single sentence shattered the last piece of Ryan's self-control. He reached for his radio. Dispatch, Static answered.
I may have a non-compliant subject causing a disturbance at Miller's diner. Emily's face drained of color. What? She's been sitting here quietly. Ryan ignored her.
I'll need another unit. Outside, the distant whale of a patrol siren drifted toward Main Street. Inside, every customer understood something terrifying. A simple breakfast was turning into an abuse of authority. Naomi looked through the front window.
Far beyond the approaching patrol car, she noticed something else. A convoy of black SUVs had just turned onto Main Street. They were still several blocks away. Ryan hadn't seen them. Neither had anyone else.
He tucked his radio back onto his shoulder and looked down at Naomi with complete confidence. You had your chance to walk out. He reached toward the edge of her table. Now we're going to do this my way. Naomi never moved.
She simply watched his hand inch closer to the table that within moments would become the center of a confrontation no one in Ashridge would ever forget. Officer Ryan Mercer's fingers tightened around the edge of the table. For one long second, the diner seemed to stop breathing. Naomi Brooks looked at him with the same composed expression she had worn since he first approached. "Officer," she said quietly.
"Please don't do something you'll regret, Ryan Smeared. The only person who's going to regret anything is you." With a violent grunt, he jerked the heavy wooden table upward. The booth exploded into chaos. Coffee flew through the air.
Plates shattered across the black and white tile floor. A bowl of hot oatmeal splashed against Naomi's navy blue coat before crashing onto the ground. Silverware scattered in every direction, clattering loudly enough to make several children in the diner cry. Gasps erupted from every corner. Emily screamed.
Oh my god. The elderly veteran lunged forward instinctively. What the hell are you doing? Ryan pointed at him without taking his eyes off Naomi. Stay back.
Naomi slowly stood from the overturned booth. Coffee dripped from the sleeve of her coat. A streak of oatmeal slid down the front of her blouse. Yet, her face remained remarkably calm. She picked up a paper napkin from the floor and quietly wiped her hands.
