Rebecca remained near the door. "If that equipment belongs to the contractor, you may be looking at a remote support environment."

Lena said, "A remote support environment shouldn't be hidden behind a wall."

Rebecca looked at her. "You don't know why it was installed."

"Neither do you."

Maya raised one hand. "Enough. We deal with what we can prove."

The technician began identifying mounted volumes and active services. After several minutes, he turned one monitor toward Maya: "There are indexed directories here that don't exist in the official storage map."

"What kind?"

"Raw body cam files, deleted media, traffic camera feeds, license plate records, municipal access events..."

Mercer looked at him. "Those could all be backup categories."

"They could," the technician said. "But this environment isn't reporting itself as a backup node to the official system."

Maya asked, "What is it reporting as?"

"Nothing. It's effectively invisible from the documented architecture."

That changed the room.

Maya looked at Lena. "Can you tell whether this system receives body cam material before or after the official archive?"

Lena moved beside the technician and reviewed the directory structure. "Some of these source files appear older than the versions in evidence management."

Maya said, "Find Nathan Cole."

The technician searched the index. Several results appeared: one was the official exported clip already preserved upstairs; another carried the original camera source identifier.

Lena leaned closer to the screen. "That's it."

Rebecca asked, "You're sure?"

"Yes. The identifier matches the continuous session."

Maya looked at the technician: "Do not play it from the live server."

"I'll image the file first, preserve the source, hash the copy, and work from that." He began the process.

Mercer remained near the entrance. "Agent Williams, if the original exists here, that may mean this system was designed as an internal recovery layer."

Maya looked around the hidden room. "Then there should be a contract describing it."

Mercer did not answer.

The technician finished the forensic copy and opened the recovered file. Nathan Cole appeared on the body cam recording beside the municipal service entrance. The footage continued past the point where the official version had stopped. An officer checked his belongings: wallet, keys, phone, work badge. No restricted access card. The search ended.

Lena looked at Maya. "The card isn't there."
