Zara nods, but doesn't smile.

Diana sits on the couch, opens her folder. "Ms. Williams, we've received multiple anonymous reports over the past week: concerns about your daughter being left unsupervised at night; concerns about exposure to dangerous individuals; concerns about unstable housing."

Kesha's hands ball into fists. "Who reported this?"

"The reports are anonymous, but I have to investigate. Can you tell me about your work schedule?"

"I work day shift at Suds Laundromat, 8:00 to 4:00. I'm home by 4:30 every day. Zara's never alone at night."

"And before this job?"

Kesha hesitates. "I was working nights cleaning offices. Sometimes I had to bring Zara because I couldn't afford childcare, but that was temporary. I have day work now."

Diana writes this down. "And the concern about dangerous individuals? Are there gang members or criminals who have contact with your daughter?"

Kesha's jaw tightens. "My daughter saved some people's lives three weeks ago. Those people were grateful. That's all."

"Those people were Hells Angels."

"Those people were human beings who would have died if my daughter hadn't warned them! She didn't ask them for anything! She just did what was right!"

Diana looks at Zara. "Sweetheart, has anyone ever made you feel unsafe? Anyone who's come to visit?"

Zara shakes her head. "No, ma'am."

"Have you seen drugs or weapons in your home?"

"No, ma'am."

Diana closes her folder. She looks at Kesha, and there's sympathy in her eyes. "Ms. Williams, I'm going to be straight with you: this case has flags all over it. Someone wants me to find something wrong here, but I don't see it. Your home is clean. Your daughter is healthy, well-fed, doing well in school. You're employed. By every metric that matters, you're doing fine."
