Every washing machine has this small part; open it once a month, and your clothes will smell fresh while your machine stays clean and lasts longer.

Washing machines were invented to help families reduce labor, making it quicker and more convenient to wash, dry, and air clothes. Life becomes easier with a washing machine. However, over time, washing machines can become dirty, and if not cleaned properly, the drum can develop a bad smell. Dirt, bacteria, and lint from clothes can accumulate in the machine if not removed, and your clothes won’t be completely cleaned, often smelling bad, especially if you don’t hang them out to dry immediately after washing.

To solve this issue, pay attention to a small part inside the machine that filters dust.

The Importance of This Small Component

This part can get dirty, and if not cleaned, it can release the dirt back onto your clothes, making them dirty, covered in lint, and smelly.

The Small but Useful Part of the Washing Machine

Inside every washing machine, there is typically a part that filters dirt and lint from clothes. If it’s not cleaned regularly, once full, the accumulated dirt can even be released back out and stick to clothes, leaving stains or causing the clothes to collect lint.

These lint filters are easy to clean and can be removed and cleaned regularly. However, many of us overlook this. Simply check your washing machine’s model, take out the filter, remove the accumulated dirt, and clean it with a brush.

How to Remove the Lint Filter

Depending on the washing machine model, the shape and position of the filter can vary. For front-loading machines, the filter is usually located on the outside, making it easy to spot. In top-loading machines, the lint filter is often located inside the drum.

The drum typically has a raised bottom that can be twisted, and you’ll find a small plastic cover. Pry this cover open, and you’ll see a screw in the middle. Use a screwdriver to remove the screw and lift the bottom part. Once you’ve removed the bottom, dump out the dirt and wash it clean. For the inside of the drum, simply wipe it with a cloth. Afterward, reassemble everything as it was.

Regular Cleaning Tips

It’s best to clean the filter once a month. This will keep your washing machine clean, and your clothes will smell fresh after washing. It’s also a way to maintain the machine and make it last longer. Regular cleaning helps ensure your clothes remain fresh and reduces the risk of bacterial buildup. Occasionally, you can use white vinegar in the washing machine and run a light spin cycle to clean the drum.

Removing the lint filter is often forgotten, especially in households without men, as this step is sometimes overlooked. Remember to clean it regularly to ensure your clothes always smell fresh!
