Four Common Foods You Should Never Combine with Chicken: A Common Mistake That Can Harm Your Health



According to traditional Eastern medicine, every food has its own inherent properties and effects on the body. When incompatible foods are combined, they may interact negatively, potentially causing adverse health effects.

Chicken is a nutritious and versatile source of protein. However, when eaten together with certain foods, it may reduce nutritional benefits and even lead to digestive disorders, allergic reactions, or skin irritation. Below are four common foods that are traditionally considered incompatible with chicken and should be avoided to protect your health.

1. Chicken and Carp Fish – May Cause Inflammation and Skin Problems

Chicken is considered warm in nature with a mildly sweet taste, while carp fish is classified as cold. This contrast is believed to disrupt the body’s balance when consumed together, potentially leading to internal heat, inflammation, boils, itching, or skin eruptions. In traditional medicine, drinking roasted black bean water is sometimes recommended to help reduce these symptoms if the combination is consumed accidentally.

2. Chicken and Shrimp – May Trigger Allergic Reactions

4. Chicken and Vietnamese Balm (Kinh Giới) – May Cause Dizziness

Vietnamese balm is commonly used to enhance flavor and support relief from colds. Despite its benefits, traditional medicine advises against combining it with chicken, as this pairing may cause dizziness, ringing in the ears, or lightheadedness in sensitive individuals.

In addition, nutrition experts note that chicken may not be suitable for everyone. People with liver disease, digestive disorders, cirrhosis, cardiovascular conditions, or high blood lipid levels should limit their intake. Chicken skin and fat contain significant amounts of cholesterol, which may place additional strain on the body if consumed excessively.
