"Brenda, my locks have been changed. There's an Airbnb listing for my house under your daughter's name."

A pause. Not a shocked pause—a calculating one. "Cole, the board declared your property abandoned under section 8.3 of the CC&Rs after 90 days of no visible occupancy. We had a duty to secure the property to prevent blight and deterioration. It's all documented."

"You changed my locks."

"We secured the property."

"You're renting my house on Airbnb."

Another pause, shorter this time. "That's my daughter's personal business venture, Cole. The HOA simply facilitated access to the unit after it was declared abandoned. What Tiffany does with a legitimately vacant property is her prerogative."

I let the silence sit for three full seconds. Intelligence work teaches you that silence after a lie is more useful than a rebuttal: people fill silences with mistakes.

"I'd like to see the board minutes from the abandonment vote," I said.

"Of course. I'll email them."

She did, within an hour. That was her second mistake. The first was changing my locks; the second was handing me the evidence.

The minutes showed a vote taken on April 18th: four in favor, three against. Motion: Declare unit 14C abandoned per CC&Rs section 8.3 and authorize the board to secure the property. It listed the four board members who voted yes. Brenda's name was first.

I read every word. Then I pulled up the Pinecrest Ridge CC&Rs. I had a copy saved on my laptop—the same copy I downloaded when I bought the place three years ago. I searched for section 8.3.

Section 8.3 of the Pinecrest Ridge CC&Rs covers maintenance of common area drainage. It's about gutters, downspouts, grading around shared retaining walls. There is not a single word about abandonment: not a clause, not a subsection, not a footnote.

Brenda Hayworth had fabricated an entire section reference. She had cited a rule that did not exist, used it to justify breaking into my home, and then handed me the paper trail proving she'd done it.
