My stomach tightened. The mowing, the white stakes, the warnings, all of it.

Rachel whispered, "That's why she kept pushing landscaping."

"Yes."

If Brookstone crews mowed the area, placed markers, trimmed trees, and treated my yard as common space, then photographs could make it look like the HOA already managed it.

Charles found another email:

*Linda: Daniel mowing inside Phase 3 area undermines possession narrative.*

I stared at the words *possession narrative*. Not property line, not truth—narrative.

*If he continues, document interference and escalate.*

The next email was sent the day before Linda called the police:

*Steven: What does escalate mean?*

*Linda: Law enforcement, if necessary. Need clean control before bank inspection.*

That was it. Linda had called the police because I was mowing my own yard and the bank inspection was coming. The arrest demand was not just anger: if Deputy Harris had believed her and removed me, even temporarily, Brookstone could have photographed something powerful—me gone, HOA workers present, their sign up, their landscaping crew mowing. It would have looked like the HOA controlled the property. False appearance, real photograph. That was the plan.

William Price looked horrified. "The bank would never accept staged possession."

Rachel looked at him. "Apparently, someone thought you would."

He nodded. "Fair."

Then we heard shouting outside: Linda.

Charles stood. "What now?"

We walked out. Linda was on speakerphone with someone. She saw William and pointed at him. "You cannot freeze this loan because of one hostile landowner!"

William stared. "One hostile landowner?"

"He is intentionally disrupting closing!"

I stepped forward. "Linda, there is no closing."

She ignored me.

William said, "Ms. Parker, the bank has received credible information that the seller denies signing the purchase agreement."

"He's lying!" That was the first time she said it so directly.

I felt my anger rise. Rachel stepped slightly in front of me. Good.

Linda continued, "He wanted more money after we structured the deal!"

"Show one message," I said. She looked at me. "One email where I agreed." Silence. "One text." Nothing. "One recorded call." Nothing. "One letter." Still nothing. I nodded. "That's what I thought."

Then Charles asked, "Why did Blue Ridge receive the deposit instead of Daniel?"

Linda looked at him. "Acquisition structure."

"Why did Parker Community Planning receive 200,000 for planning services? Did the board know you owned it?"

She paused. "It is public record."

"That is not disclosure."

Linda looked toward William. "This conversation is inappropriate."

William closed his folder. "What is inappropriate is asking the bank to release money based on land control documents the landowner disputes."

Then his phone rang again. He answered, listened, his face changed. "Yes." Pause. "When?" Another pause. "Freeze it." He hung up, cleared his throat.

Rachel asked, "What happened?"
