I Had No Clue About This! Such an Interesting Trick My Nana Swore By
Living with a beautiful garden is wonderful—until moles show up and turn it into a mess overnight. These little diggers create tunnels that disrupt roots, kill plants, and ruin hours of hard work. Sure, there are plenty of commercial repellents out there, but they’re pricey, hit-or-miss, and not always safe for pets or plants.
Thankfully, my nana had a clever old-school solution that takes just 4 minutes, requires almost zero effort, and has kept moles away from her garden for decades.
What You’ll Need
-
1 bar of deodorant soap
-
A cheese grater or knife
-
Watering can or hose
-
Gloves (optional)
How to Use This Trick
-
Grate the bar of deodorant soap (or shave it into thin flakes with a knife).
-
Sprinkle the shavings generously anywhere you’ve seen mole tunnels or activity.
-
Lightly water the area—the moisture helps spread the scent deeper into the soil.
-
Reapply weekly or after heavy rain.
Why It Actually Works
Moles have an extremely sensitive sense of smell. The strong fragrance of deodorant soap is overwhelming to them, so they instinctively avoid treated areas. It’s a safe, humane, and chemical-free way to drive them out without harming your garden, pets, or local wildlife.
