He stared. "That was not reassuring."

She smiled. "You will fail sometimes. So will I. We will make mistakes."

"That is not what I meant."

"I know." She took his hand. "You do not have to be perfect to be a good husband."

"What do I have to be?"

"Honest."

He nodded.

"Patient."

He hesitated. "I will try."

"Kind."

"I can do that."

"And willing to listen."

He smiled. "That one may be difficult."

"I know."

He kissed her hand. "And you?"

"I will do the same."

He looked at her. "Then perhaps we will manage."

"We will."

He stood. "Come."

"Where?"

"I have something to show you."

Outside the chapel was a small garden. A white bird sat on the fountain. Julian stopped. Eliza laughed.

"It followed you."

"No, it did." He looked at the bird. "Tomorrow I am getting married."

The bird tilted its head.

Julian sighed. "Do not steal anything."

Eliza smiled. "I think it is listening."

"I hope it is."

After their wedding, Julian discovered that Eliza hated being called "Your Grace" when they were alone.

"You are doing it again."

"Doing what?"

"Calling me 'Your Grace'."

"You are the Duchess."

"I know."

"Then what should I call you?"

"Eliza."

"I do."

"Not when you are being dramatic."

He considered this. "Eliza."
