Inside the restaurant, nobody noticed yet. Everyone remained focused on the conflict unfolding around Charles's table. Everyone except Daniel. The owner happened to glance toward the front doors and immediately froze. His face drained of color.

Charles noticed. "What now?"

Daniel didn't answer; he was staring toward the entrance. So were several staff members. One by one, heads began turning. The room shifted: a ripple moving across 60 people. Conversations stopped, eyes widened.

And then the doors opened. Henry Lawson entered.

The reaction was immediate: a woman near the bar gasped; a businessman stood halfway from his chair; two servers exchanged shocked looks. Because almost everyone knew exactly who Henry Lawson was: hotel magnate, real estate investor, philanthropist, one of the wealthiest men in Illinois—the man rumored to be acquiring multiple hospitality properties throughout Chicago, including, perhaps, Lakeshore Terrace.

Daniel moved immediately. "Mr. Lawson."

Henry smiled. "Daniel." They shook hands.

The room watched. Charles stared: confused, then intrigued, then surprised, because Henry Lawson rarely appeared in public, and certainly not without notice.

"What is he doing here?" Raymond whispered.

Nobody knew—not yet.

Henry exchanged a few quiet words with Daniel. Then his eyes moved through the room—slowly, patiently—until they landed on Maya.

For a brief moment, neither moved. Recognition flashed across her face: not complete recognition—confusion first, then memory, then disbelief. The bus stop, the rain, the soup, the scarf, the old man... The room disappeared around her; the realization hit all at once.

Henry smiled—a warm smile, the same one he'd given her hours earlier. Only now, everyone else could see it.

Maya stared. "You..."

Henry nodded. "Hello, Maya."

The entire restaurant seemed to stop breathing. Charles looked between them. "What is this?"

Nobody answered—not immediately, because nobody understood.

Henry walked forward, calmly. The crowd parted without realizing it. Eventually, he stopped beside Charles's table. Then he looked directly at Maya.

"I've been hoping we'd meet again."
