Jennifer sat by the window with her headphones on, reading a book.

This had become her favorite pastime recently. Ever since she married Martin, her life changed drastically. She loved Martin, and he loved her.

However, Martin had a daughter named Carrie, who had disliked Jennifer from the start. Carrie had just turned eighteen but still behaved rebellious.

But when Jennifer put on her headphones and got lost in her favorite book, she could forget about her worries for a while and find peace.

The living room was quiet, except for the soft hum of music in Jennifer's ears and the gentle rustle of pages as she turned them.

The sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow over her, making her feel calm and secure. But this tranquility was short-lived.

Glancing up from her book, Jennifer saw a furious Martin standing in front of her.

His face was red, and his hands were clenched into fists at his sides. She couldn't hear what he was saying, so she removed her headphones.

"When were you planning to tell me about this?!" he shouted, his voice shaking with anger.

"Tell you about what?" Jennifer replied, genuinely confused.

"About what? Nothing's happened, Jennifer? Are you sure?" Martin's voice dripped with sarcasm, his eyes glaring into hers.

"Martin, I don't understand what you're talking about. Just tell me what's bothering you," Jennifer said calmly, though her heart was beginning to race.

Martin gave an exasperated smile and held up a pregnancy test. "This! You think I don't have a right to know about this?"

Jennifer's eyes widened in shock.

"Where did you find it?" she asked, her heart pounding louder now.

"In the bathroom trash. Does it matter where I found it? It's positive! Were you planning to tell me you're pregnant?"

Martin's voice rose in anger, echoing through the quiet house.

Jennifer felt a wave of dizziness.

"You're jumping to conclusions, Martin. Please calm down!" she pleaded, trying to keep her voice steady.

"Jumping to conclusions? Jennifer, this is our future child we're talking about! Were you planning... I don't even want to think about it," he said, his voice breaking as he tried to control his emotions.

"I wasn't planning anything. Please, calm down. Let's sit and talk about this tonight. Right now, you need to go to work,"

Jennifer urged, hoping to defuse the situation.
