Mercer tried to recover by pointing toward the street and raising his voice at the crew. He began saying the area was active, that they needed to step back, that they were too close. But the visual evidence was already working against him. No tape had been crossed. No crowd surge had occurred. No arrest was happening where Maya stood. Other bystanders remained even closer than the news crew. His explanation didn't match what people could see with their own eyes.

That angle showed Mercer looking directly at Maya and the camera before approaching. It showed no sudden threat, no chaotic movement, no need for protective action. It showed deliberation.
