"Get up. Move now. You deaf? I'm the pilot of this aircraft."

"I'm sorry. What?"

"A real VIP is boarding and I need this seat. So get your Black ass to the back where you belong."

"I paid for this seat."

He laughed right in her face.

"Paid with what? Food stamps? People like you don't fly first class. You clean it."

Her hands were shaking. Not from fear, but from something deeper than that.

"Move before I call security and have them drag you off like the stray you are."

Six passengers, twelve eyes, not one voice. Simone Fletcher stood up, grabbed her bag, and walked to row 22. She didn't say another word. She just pulled out her phone and sent one text. That single text was about to change everything on this plane.

The terminal at Hartsfield-Jackson Private Aviation smelled like jet fuel and fresh leather. Gate 7B had marble floors polished to a mirror shine. Crystal chandeliers hung from coffered ceilings. Soft jazz played from hidden speakers. Everything about this place whispered money.

Simone Fletcher had walked through the automatic doors at 6:47 a.m. carrying a single canvas tote bag. No rolling Louis Vuitton, no designer sunglasses perched on her head. She wore an oversized oatmeal cardigan over a plain white tee, dark jeans, and flat-soled boots that barely made a sound on the marble. Her reading glasses sat on the bridge of her nose. Her hair was pulled back in a simple twist. She looked like someone's favorite auntie heading home after a weekend visit.

The woman at the check-in counter had glanced up, then glanced back down at her screen. No smile, no greeting, just a flat, "Name."

"Fletcher, Simone."
