Put this into a lemon and place it in the corner of your house – mosquitoes will stay away for good

Many Natural Ways to Repel Mosquitoes

There are plenty of ways to keep mosquitoes away. People often use mosquito spray, mosquito coils, or essential oils designed to repel insects. In addition, there are many natural ingredients that can drive mosquitoes out of your home safely, without harming your health. One of the simplest and most effective is lemon.

1. Lemon and Cloves

You only need a lemon and some dried cloves. Dried cloves can be purchased at traditional medicine shops, herbal stores, or spice markets.

  • Cut a lemon in half horizontally.

  • Insert several dried cloves into the exposed surface of the lemon.

  • The more cloves you use, the stronger the fragrance, and the more effective it is at repelling mosquitoes.

Place the clove-studded lemon in corners of your house or in areas where mosquitoes tend to gather, such as bathrooms, dining rooms, or living rooms. For convenience, you can place the lemon halves on a small plate for easy cleanup later.

2. Coffee Grounds

If you usually drink coffee made with a filter or a machine, don’t throw away the used coffee grounds. Instead, let them dry completely in the sun and then burn them.

Burning coffee grounds works like natural incense: the smoke drives mosquitoes away, especially in corners where they gather.

Note: When burning coffee grounds, always keep your home well-ventilated by opening windows or doors. Coffee grounds smolder and do not create visible flames, but you should still monitor them to avoid accidents.

3. Grapefruit Peel

Grapefruit peel can also be used as a mosquito repellent. Simply dry the peel in the sun. When needed, burn a piece and let the aroma spread throughout your home.

You can place burning grapefruit peel near entryways, windows, or vents. Always ensure good airflow and take precautions so the flame does not spread to other items.

4. Essential Oils

Mosquitoes dislike the fragrance of many herbal essential oils. You can use natural oils such as:

  • Lavender oil

  • Lemongrass (citronella) oil

  • Tea tree oil

  • Cinnamon oil

  • Peppermint oil

These can be used with an oil diffuser, mixed with water for cleaning floors, or diluted and applied directly to the skin.

5. Menthol Oil (Tiger Balm / Eucalyptus Oil)

One of the simplest and most affordable ways to repel mosquitoes is to use menthol or eucalyptus oil (often found in households as Tiger Balm or medicated oil).

  • Place a few drops in areas where mosquitoes gather.

  • Apply directly on the skin to protect yourself.

  • Add a few drops to a fan blade so the scent disperses throughout the room, keeping mosquitoes away more effectively.
