School speaks out after woman goes viral for 'stealing' baseball from kid at Phillies game

Has 'baseball Karen' really been fired?

It seems like there's a new social media outcast every single week, and now people have decided to focus on a woman who 'stole' a baseball from a child in what many are calling typical 'Karen' fashion.

It feels like we've only just recovered from the Coldplay kisscam scandal that sent social media into hysterics and led to multiple people losing their jobs, yet now it seems like TikTok and X have found their next target.

Only recently were a number of healthcare workers subject to severe criticism after they were accused of 'dehumanizing' patients with a viral TikTok post, and it didn't take long for another pariah to pop up.

This time around it's a woman that people have taken to calling 'baseball Karen', as she was captured berating a father and son at a recent game, and it seems like her actions could have had consequences that she might not have expected.

What did 'baseball Karen' do?

In a clip captured by CNBC Sports Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Phillies' Harrison Bader managed to hit a solo home run to the second deck in left field, in what ended up being a 9-3 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday.

Here is the full video of the situation in the outfield after Harrison Bader’s Home Run.

While a home run would usually take all of the attention, it was the actions of the crowd that drew people's eyes instead, as a woman appeared to unleash her fury at a father and his son after they caught the ball that she presumably believed to be rightfully hers.

The father can be seen excitedly handing the baseball over to his son before 'baseball Karen' angrily storms up behind him and grabs his arm, shouting relentlessly at him before she eventually gets the baseball she so desires.

It wasn't all doom and gloom for the child thankfully, as he was given a goody bag of Phillies merch by staff and even managed to meet some of the players as a result, but things might not be so rosy for the woman despite getting what she wanted.

The baseball #Karen has been fired from her school position; her social media accounts have been flooded by students with hateful messages and telling her she’s not welcome back at her school… #Yay Karma is a b*tch @Phillies #Karen #Phillies

"The baseball Karen has been fired from her school position," claimed David Lesley on X, adding that "her social media accounts have been flooded by students with hateful messages and telling her she's not welcome back at her school."

Has baseball Karen really been fired from her job?

As reported by EssentiallySports, there still remains a lot of confusion and uncertainty over the identity of baseball Karen, but some people appeared to settle on her employer being the Hammonton School District, which she had allegedly been fired from.

However, Hammonton has since released a statement following the allegations, and it appears to clear the air:

"The woman identified on social media as 'Phillies Karen' is not, and has never been an employee of the Hammonton Public Schools located in Hammonton, New Jersey.

"Social media and news reports indicating that she is, are incorrect. Anyone who works for our school district, attended as a student, or lives in our community would obviously have caught the ball bare-handed in the first place, avoiding this entire situation."

While the statement does poke fun towards the end, it does make it clear that any claims that she had been both working for and fired by Hammonton are untrue, so people will either have to continue their strange witch hunt online or move onto the next big social media scandal which is guaranteed to be just around the corner.
