Simple tips to clean phone speakers at home, anyone can do it

After a period of use, dust can accumulate on the phone's speaker, affecting the sound quality. You can clean the phone's speaker to improve your experience when using the device.

The speaker area of a phone is very susceptible to dust. This not only affects the aesthetics but also impacts the sound quality, causing the sound to be quieter and more distorted.

Although a dirty speaker is not a major issue, to ensure that the sound quality of the device is not compromised, you should clean the speaker.

Before cleaning the phone's speaker, you need to turn off the device. Additionally, prepare a phone and computer cleaning kit (which can be found on e-commerce sites), cotton swabs or a soft cloth, alcohol or phone cleaning solution, and a mini vacuum cleaner (commonly used for cleaning phones and computers).

Cleaning the Phone Speaker with Soft Materials

You need to locate the speaker on the phone before cleaning. For iPhones, the speaker is typically located to the left and right of the charging port. For Android phones, the speaker may be located either on the left or right of the charging port.

You can use soft materials like cotton swabs to gently rotate them into the speaker slots to remove the dust inside. You can also use a soft-bristled brush to push the dust out of the speaker. If using a brush, brush in different directions (up and down, back and forth) to remove as much dust as possible.

If you have 70% alcohol, you can dip a cotton swab into the alcohol and wipe the phone speaker. Alcohol evaporates quickly, so after wiping, just leave the phone in a well-ventilated area, and the alcohol will evaporate completely.

Cleaning the Phone Speaker with Tape

You can roll a piece of tape into a cylinder so that the sticky side faces outward. Insert this tape tube into the phone's speaker slot. The dust on the speaker will quickly stick to the tape. Replace the tape with a new piece and repeat the process until the speaker feels clean.

Alternatively, you can place a piece of tape on the surface of the phone speaker. Use a small stick to press the tape into the speaker slot, so the dust can stick to the sticky part of the tape. Peel off the tape and repeat the process until the speaker is clean.

Cleaning the Phone Speaker with Compressed Air

You can invest in a compressed air spray can to blow the dust out of the phone's speaker. This product is available at electronics stores. Before using it, make sure to read the instructions on the packaging carefully. Test it a few times to ensure it works properly. Then, place the nozzle of the can near the speaker slot and blow 3-4 bursts of air. Note: Do not place the spray nozzle too close to the speaker slots. Keep a safe distance to prevent the strong air pressure from damaging the phone’s components.

Cleaning the Phone Speaker with Sound

In addition to cleaning the speaker manually as described above, you can also use sound to clean the dust off the phone’s speaker. Some apps use sound to clean phone speakers, such as Frequency Sound Generator, Speaker Cleaner, and Sonic.

Cleaning the Phone Jacks

Besides cleaning the speaker, you can also clean the phone’s jack slots in a similar way.
