⚖️ Tony Bellew Backs Major I'm A Celebrity Trial Rule Change After Star Was 'Broken'
Former professional boxer and fan-favorite I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! campmate Tony Bellew has voiced his support for a major rule change introduced for the 2025 series, which limits the number of consecutive Bushtucker Trials any one celebrity can face. Bellew argued the change is a necessary, positive step to protect contestants and ensure fairness, citing the experience of his co-star, Nella Rose, who was repeatedly put forward for challenges in the 2023 series (Entertainment Daily, Radio Times).
The New "Two-Trial" Limit
For the first time in the show's history, I'm A Celebrity bosses have implemented a limit on the public voting for Bushtucker Trials:
-
The Rule: A celebrity can only be voted for two consecutive trials.
1 If they complete two trials in a row, they are exempt from the public vote for the following day's trial (ITV Spokesperson via Radio Times).2 -
The Goal: According to an ITV spokesperson, the decision was made to ensure all campmates get "the opportunity to shine" and to guarantee the "responsibility for winning food is shared among more of the campmates" (Radio Times).

This move directly addresses a long-standing pattern where viewers would repeatedly vote for the celebrity they most wanted to see struggle or be challenged, leading to certain contestants—such as Gillian McKeith, Helen Flanagan, or Dean McCullough (who faced seven trials in a row in a recent series)—dominating screen time (OK!
Tony Bellew’s Support: Recalling Nella Rose
Speaking on behalf of EsportsBets, Tony Bellew—who finished as the runner-up in the 2023 series—backed the rule change, highlighting the mental toll repeated trials took on his campmate, Nella Rose.
"I really felt for Nella when we were in there. She is such a lovely girl. She got dealt a harsh hand because she kept getting put on the trials and challenges. It broke her to be fair," Bellew stated (Entertainment Daily).
During the 2023 run, YouTuber Nella Rose was one of the contestants most frequently chosen by the public for trials, in addition to facing major emotional challenges within the camp, including a highly publicized clash with Fred Sirieix (Wikipedia, LADbible).
An Argument for Equal Misery
Bellew acknowledged that the trials are a core part of the show's format and necessary for gathering food, but he believes the burden should be distributed more evenly.
"The trials basically should be shared out between all the celebs. Everyone should have to endure a horrific trial. I don’t care what your fear is or what you are in there for. Everybody should have at least one horrific trial. Nobody should come out unscathed. Believe me, I did not,” the former boxer commented, having faced his own challenges, including the snake-filled 'Eaten Alive' trial (Entertainment Daily, Daily Record).
This new rule is viewed by many fans as a "great move" that will allow them to "uncover new favourites" by giving more celebrities the chance to showcase their personality and determination during the iconic Bushtucker Trials (The Independent).
