Luis had met Marcus twice.

Once during an operational review after winter cancellations.

Once at an employee town hall.

He also had a framed photograph in the station office showing Marcus standing beside Aurelia Airways CEO Daniel Cho at the ceremony where Ellison Aviation Holdings completed its controlling investment in the airline.

Luis understood the situation instantly.

He wished he did not.

Victoria stepped forward.

“Are you the manager?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

“Good.”

She gestured toward Marcus.

“This gentleman has been argumentative and is causing unnecessary disruption in your Signature lane.”

Luis looked toward Marcus.

Then at Kelsey.

“What happened?”

Victoria answered before Kelsey could.

“I politely told him he appeared to be in the wrong line.”

“He became confrontational.”

Marcus said nothing.

Luis looked toward Kelsey.

“Kelsey?”

Her face reddened.

“Mr. Ellison has a valid Group 1 First Class boarding pass.”

Luis nodded.

“So he is correctly queued.”

“Yes.”

Victoria interrupted.

“That is not the issue anymore.”

Luis looked toward her.

“What is the issue?”

“His behavior.”

Marcus smiled faintly.

There it was.

When the original assumption failed, behavior became the new problem.

Victoria continued.

“I asked that he step away until boarding.”

“Why?”

“Because he was making me uncomfortable.”

Luis took a breath.

Then looked directly at her.

“Mrs. Ashford, Mr. Ellison is entitled to stand exactly where he is.”

Victoria’s face tightened.

“I understand he has a ticket.”

Luis continued.

“He is also the executive chairman of Ellison Aviation Holdings.”

Silence.

Victoria stared.

Luis finished because the sentence had already begun.

“Ellison Aviation holds the controlling interest in Aurelia Airways.”

The concourse seemed to disappear.

Victoria looked at Marcus.

Then Luis.

Then Marcus again.

Her face lost color.

Kelsey froze.

Two passengers behind them looked openly now.

Marcus closed his eyes for one second.

Not anger.

Disappointment.

He looked at Luis.

“That should not matter.”

Luis knew immediately.

“Yes, sir.”

Marcus pointed toward the boarding sign.

“Was I in the right line?”

“Yes.”

“Did I have a valid boarding pass?”

“Yes.”

“Did I violate any gate policy?”

Luis looked toward Kelsey.

She shook her head.

“No.”

Marcus nodded.

“Then that is the answer.”
