Driver rams vehicle into pedestrians, ki.ll.ing 35 people

In a tragic vehicle incident in southern China, 35 people have been killed and 43 others injured after a car drove into pedestrians outside a sports center in Guangdong province.

"A serious and brutal car-ramming incident occurred at the Zhuhai Sports Center on the evening of November 11. The suspect, identified as Fan, 62, drove an SUV through the sports center gate and struck people exercising on the facility's internal road," local police announced on November 12.

The incident led to 35 fatalities and 43 injuries. Police reported that the suspect fled the scene after the attack and attempted to commit suicide with a knife inside his vehicle.

"Officers prevented the suspect and took him to the hospital for treatment," the statement read. "We are unable to interrogate him as the suspect is currently in a coma after inflicting injuries to his neck and other parts of his body."

Preliminary investigations revealed the suspect was frustrated with the property division outcome following his divorce.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has directed local officials to make every effort to treat the injured and ensure the perpetrator is punished in accordance with the law.

Zhuhai, a coastal city in southern Guangdong province, China, covers an area of over 1,700 square kilometers and has a population of more than 2.4 million. The city has also recently been in the spotlight as the venue for China's largest airshow.
