Dog Climbs to the Top of Pyramid, Becomes Social Media Sensation
A video of a dog climbing to the top of a 136-meter-tall pyramid in Egypt has attracted over 25 million views, as many admire the animal's adventurous spirit.
Marshall Mosher, an American paragliding athlete, was flying with his friends near the Giza pyramid complex in Egypt on October 15 when he spotted a dog barking and playing with birds at the top of the pyramid.
"A dog has climbed all the way to the top of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Do you think it lives up there?" Mosher wrote when he posted the video on Instagram. The video caught a lot of attention, gaining over 25 million views.
Mosher later clarified that the dog was actually spotted on top of the Khafre pyramid, not the Great Pyramid of Giza. Khafre is the second-largest pyramid in the Giza complex, standing around 136 meters tall, just three meters shorter than the Great Pyramid.
Many Instagram users jokingly suggested that Mosher had stumbled upon Anubis, the Egyptian god with the head of a dog. They were also amazed by the dog's climbing skills and "adventurous" nature.
Mosher discovered the dog at the top of the pyramid on October 15.
Due to concerns about the dog's safety, Mosher's group decided to paraglide over the pyramid again the next morning to offer help if the animal was stuck at the top.
However, they did not see the dog on the pyramid's peak. "I think it found a way down safely. I have no idea how it managed to climb up," Mosher said.
He explained that the dog was part of a pack living near the pyramid complex. His group later spotted the dog climbing nimbly from the top of the pyramid back to the ground.
Footage captured from the ground showed the dog easily hopping across stone steps as it descended. "It seems that these dogs living in the area often climb up and down the pyramids," Mosher remarked.
The dog successfully climbed down from the top of the pyramid.
