Bizarre reason why only bald people can attend special screening of new Emma Stone movie
2025 has been a bumper one for movies, and as we near the end of the year, it's easy to forget we've sat through everything from Weapons to The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Sinners to One Battle After Another. There's still plenty to come, and while Avatar: Fire and Ash is sure to dominate the final months of 2025, we've still got the likes of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery and Predator: Badlands to come.
One of the other big movies is Yorgos Lanthimos' Bulgonia, which again sees the Poor Things director reunite with long-term collaborator Emma Stone. Having first worked together on 2018's The Favourite, Stone then had major roles in Poor Things and Kinds of Kindness. She again takes the lead for Bugonia, playing a kidnapped CEO called Michelle Fuller. This high-profile CEO of a pharmaceutical company is kidnapped by a pair of conspiracy theorists (played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis), who are convinced she's an alien invader.

Bugonia is an English-language remake of Jang Joon-hwan's Save the Green Planet! from 2003, but already, it looks like one of 2025's weirdest outings. Lanthimos' marketing machine is going into overdrive, with one theater in Los Angeles holding a 'bald only' screening.
Fuller has her head shaved by her captors early in Bulgonia, with Stone actually undergoing the transformation in real life. In an August 2025 interview with Vogue, Stone explained: "No better feeling in the world. The first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my God, it’s amazing.”
DoLa has shared information on its bald Bulgonia event, explaining how only those who've lost their hair or who are willing to go under the clippers will be allowed in. The special event states: "This special screening is for anyone who is bald. If you are not bald, we will have a barber on site to shave your head in order for you to watch the film."
Although the screening starts at 8 pm, those who are planning on getting a shave are encouraged to attend from 6 pm.
It's on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning that a ticket won't guarantee admission. There's also a caveat that part of it will be filmed for promotional purposes, so we hope you aren't afraid of being on camera.
Still, with tickets being free, any wannabe Charles Xaviers could finally get their time to shine.
As for why Stone didn't pause when shaving her hair off, she said it was part of her past experience of her mother's cancer treatment: "She actually did something brave. I’m just shaving my head.”
Responding to DoLA's Instagram post, one person said: "DAMN! I wish this was in NYC too! I’ve been bald since 2017. Would have been my time to shine!! 🤣"
Another joked: "Representation matters."
A third concluded: "How bald do you have to be? Asking for a friend..."
There was even a message from Manscaped, with the grooming brand saying it wanted to sponsor the screening.
