The Dog Who Wore a Sheep’s Skin.

🐶 The Dog Who Wore a Sheep’s Skin

Under the pale light of the moon, the barnyard lay still. Crickets chirped in the distance, and the sheep slept soundly — unaware that danger lurked beyond the hills. For weeks, a cunning wolf had been slipping past fences and traps, picking off the flock one by one. No dog could catch it. No alarm could scare it off.

But one dog had a plan.

🎭 A Clever Disguise

Rufus, a loyal shepherd dog, had watched the wolf’s attacks with growing frustration. He’d guarded the flock since he was a pup, but this predator was unlike any he’d faced. It only struck when silence returned — when the dogs were called off.

So Farmer Dane, desperate to protect his animals, came up with a bold idea: “Let’s give the wolf what it wants to see.”

He stitched together a crude costume of wool and straw, wrapping Rufus in a disguise that made him look like just another sheep. That night, Rufus lay motionless in the pen, hidden beneath the wool — waiting.

🐺 The Confrontation

The wolf came, silent as smoke. Its eyes glowed faintly as it scanned the pen. To its sharp gaze, Rufus appeared small, alone, and unaware. It crept closer, muscles coiled, breath shallow.

Rufus didn’t move. His heart pounded, but he stayed still.

Then — the wolf lunged.

In a flash, Rufus sprang up. The wool flew from his back as he met the wolf mid-air, teeth bared, body braced. The barnyard erupted in a flurry of growls, dust, and flashing eyes. Rufus fought not just for himself, but for every life behind the fence.

Scratched and bruised, he drove the wolf back through the gate, chasing it into the trees until its shadow vanished.

🌕 A Legend Is Born

By morning, Rufus stood guard again — blood on his fur, the disguise torn beside him. The sheep huddled close, trembling but safe. Farmer Dane knelt beside his dog, tears in his eyes: “You clever boy,” he whispered. “You saved them all.”

The wolf never returned. And though the wool disguise was never used again, the legend of the dog who wore a sheep’s skin lived on — told by shepherds beside campfires and farmers beneath the stars.

They say even the bravest predators learned fear that night — not from traps or guns, but from the loyalty of one creature who guarded the weak as if they were his own.
