"Where is my security chief?"
Governor Pennington's voice carried through the station with the unmistakable tone of barely controlled rage. His words echoed off the institutional walls, reaching every corner of the building and causing uniformed officers to exchange worried glances.
Gerald Hawkins looked up from his paperwork with annoyance, clearly irritated by the interruption to his booking process. He had no idea who the well-dressed man was, and his arrogance prevented him from recognizing the significance of the moment unfolding before him.
"Sir, you need to wait in the lobby area," Gerald Hawkins called out dismissively, not even bothering to stand from his desk. "We're processing a criminal here, and this is official police business."
The governor's security detail tensed visibly at Gerald Hawkins' tone, their hands instinctively moving closer to their weapons. The disrespect shown to their principal was unprecedented, and the situation developing in the booking area was critical.
Detective Michelle Park dropped her coffee cup, the ceramic shattering on the floor as she realized the catastrophic mistake Gerald Hawkins was about to make. She clutched the folder tighter and started moving toward the booking area, knowing she had to intervene before the situation became irreversible.
"Chief Hawkins!" she called out desperately, her voice cracking with urgency. "You need to stop what you're doing right now!"
Gerald Hawkins whirled around to face Detective Park, his face flushed with anger at what he perceived as insubordination. "Detective Park, I've warned you about interfering with my cases. One more word and you'll be facing disciplinary action!"
