Elon Musk sparks debate with terrifying prediction about robots people claim will turn into 'nightmare'

While it may seem like Elon Musk has been quieter on social media recently—perhaps due to his fallout with President Trump—he occasionally resurfaces to stir the pot.

The Tesla mogul has clearly distanced himself from politics and reaffirmed his focus on other ventures, such as his electric vehicle brand and SpaceX.

But it isn’t just about producing electric cars, opening Tesla-themed diners, or launching Roadsters into space that Tesla is known for.

Returning to his roots, Musk has been pushing the company’s advancements in robotics, specifically the development of the Optimus robot.

We’ve previously discussed concerns that Musk’s push for robotics could lead to “one of the most dangerous inventions ever created,” but according to Musk, his robots are meant to benefit humanity. Perhaps a few Terminator films would offer him some perspective.

One post on X predicted that by 2030, robots would replace all human jobs, suggesting that 320 million robots could be produced annually within the next five years.Elon Musk has made a bold prediction about the future of robots (Anadolu / Contributor / Getty)

Musk responded, agreeing with the estimate, and added: "Intelligent robots in humanoid form will vastly outnumber humans, as everyone will want their own personal R2-D2 and C-3PO."

For those already uneasy about the idea of robots outnumbering people, another user asked how society would sustain itself without jobs.

Musk responded, stating: "There will be universal high income (not just basic income). Everyone will have access to the best medical care, food, housing, transport, and more. Sustainable abundance."

This may sound appealing coming from someone with a net worth of $431.8 billion, but Musk assures us that it won’t be limited to just the basics—he envisions much more than a basic income.

Echoing the concerns of many, someone else remarked: "Do you really not see why this could be a nightmare?" This isn't the first time Musk has mentioned the concept of universal high income (UHI).

Speaking at the Viva Technology Conference in Paris this past May, Musk suggested: "In an ideal scenario, none of us will have jobs... I’d say there’s an 80% chance that advances in AI will lead to a situation where humans won’t need to work and will have everything they need."

Musk has also admitted that there could be challenges with this idea, especially regarding the purpose humans would serve if AI takes over all our tasks.

Others, including Bill Gates, have voiced skepticism. As far back as 2017, Gates argued that the U.S. isn’t ready for universal basic income, stating: "Even the U.S. isn’t rich enough to allow people not to work. Someday we might be, but until then, things like the earned income tax credit will help increase the demand for labor."

As for Musk’s latest promotion of UHI, one person referenced The Hunger Games, saying: "Don’t worry, there will be far fewer of us by the time this happens. May the odds be ever in your favor."

Another commenter added: "Nothing good has ever happened to peasants who couldn’t provide a needed skill. If they don’t need our labor, they don’t need us."

A third commenter grimly concluded: "He knows it’s a nightmare for people. This is part of the globalist agenda, and they don’t care. People must put aside politics and differences, unite, and stand against this evil. Otherwise, this will be our final demise."
