But I raised a hand. "Filing paperwork takes weeks. By then, she'll have already scared half the neighborhood into submission. We need to act faster and louder."

"What are you thinking?" George asked.

I leaned forward, my voice steady. "We go public—not just to the neighborhood, but to the county, to the press if we have to. Cara's power has always relied on secrecy, on manipulating rules behind closed doors. We drag her schemes into the light and make her a spectacle."

Two days later, that spectacle unfolded.

We organized a town hall in the clubhouse, inviting not just residents, but also a county inspector and a local journalist from the community paper. Word spread fast. By the time the meeting started, the room was overflowing. Cameras clicked, notepads filled, and tension buzzed like static in the air.

Cara was there, of course. She stood near the front, arms folded, a smug smile plastered across her face as if she'd already won. Her SUV keys dangled from her manicured fingers, a casual symbol of her arrogance.

I took the podium. Behind me, projected on the wall, was a slideshow of photographs—my footage of Cara installing her fake signs, her booth, her unauthorized structures.

"Neighbors," I began, my voice steady. "What you're looking at is not security. It's not community service. It's fraud. These signs, this booth, this entire charade was erected without approval from the HOA, from the county, from anyone. It is intimidation, plain and simple."

The inspector spoke next, confirming in clipped tones that the structures violated county codes. The journalist scribbled furiously. Whispers turned into outraged mutters.

Cara snapped, stepping forward. "This is for your safety! Someone has to maintain order. If the HOA won't enforce the rules, then I will."

Her words backfired spectacularly. Parents shouted back: "We don't need you policing our kids!"

George rose, his voice booming. "You're not protecting us, Cara. You're terrorizing us."

The journalist captured it all: her shrill protests, the neighbors' fury, the inspector's calm condemnation. By the time the meeting ended, Cara's illusion of authority had shattered. The county inspector handed her a written notice ordering the immediate removal of all unauthorized structures. The journalist promised a front-page story.
