Jane Seymour declares ‘70 is the new 50’ after finding love again following four marriages

Jane Seymour is proving that romance has no age limit, declaring that “70 is the new 50” as she celebrates finding deeply fulfilling love later in life. In a candid interview with Hello! Magazine, the beloved actress opened up about her unexpected but joyful relationship with emergency room doctor and musician John Zambetti — a man she describes as “amazingly brilliant” and an extraordinary match for her at this stage in her journey.

Seymour, who has been married four times, admitted she never believed she would experience a healthy and committed partnership again. “I honestly never thought I would find a really committed, healthy, lovely, loving relationship at this time of my life,” she shared. “But I’m incredibly blessed that I have.” Her renewed optimism led her to confidently declare, “70 is the new 50,” emphasizing how energized, alive, and emotionally open she feels.

Reflecting on her life, Seymour explained that what makes this new love so meaningful is the perspective that comes with age. “You’ve had a life. Many lives. And children, and grandchildren, and careers, and ups and downs,” she said. “You know what you want. I consider both of us so fortunate to have found each other at the time we have, because it wouldn’t have ever worked earlier.” She noted that their worlds had been vastly different — his rooted in medicine and touring with his band, hers shaped by international filming schedules — but their paths aligned when both were finally ready.

When asked whether they crossed paths through online dating, Seymour immediately laughed off the idea, joking, “It’s too complicated — I can kill a computer just by looking at it!” Instead, the couple connected through their children. Seymour, who has six children including stepchildren, and Zambetti, who has two children from a 43-year marriage, were introduced because their families sensed a natural compatibility. “Our kids pretty much put us together,” Seymour revealed. “They’re the ones who heard that he’d seen me and asked whether I was single or not.”

Their love story officially began at a Shwayze concert. Seymour has known the artist since he was seven and describes him as a “mutual best friend.” “I’m like his surrogate mother,” she said. “And it turns out John’s always been his surrogate father.” The serendipitous overlap in their lives convinced both of them that fate had played a role.

Seymour admitted to the outlet that she didn't think a healthy, loving relationship was possible at this stage of her life.

Early in their relationship, Zambetti confessed he had never seen Seymour’s work — something the actress found refreshingly sincere. “One of the first things he did was say, ‘I want to see what you do,’” she recalled. Seymour admitted that she herself hasn’t seen much of her own work, including most of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, because she was “too busy making it.”

Seymour also discussed aspects of the relationship that people often avoid talking about — including intimacy. She said that sex remains an important and vibrant part of her life, and she pushed back against the idea that desire naturally fades with age. “In my parents’ generation, and I think for a lot of people, they reach a certain age and they go, ‘That’s not part of our life anymore,’” she said. “I just think, with maturity, you understand your body, you understand what feels good, and you have knowledge — so put it down to that.”

Confident, self-aware, and deeply grateful, Seymour believes that meeting Zambetti when both were fully formed individuals has made all the difference. Their connection, built on shared values, long-lived experience, and mutual respect, is proof that love can bloom at any age — and that sometimes, life’s later chapters are the most rewarding.
