Sabrina arrived on time, acted normal, helped set the table. Rachel waited until their mom went outside with the kids. Then she confronted her in the kitchen.

"I know about the credit inquiry. I know about Tyler. I know what you told Nico, what you told Tyler, and what you told me. None of it lines up."

Sabrina's face went blank, then defensive. "You are making this a bigger deal than it is."

"You used my name on a mortgage application without telling me."

"I was exploring options."

"Options for what?"

Sabrina didn't answer.

Their mother came back inside, saw the tension, and tried to smooth it over immediately. "Whatever this is, we can talk about it calmly."

Rachel didn't back down. "She lied to Nico. She lied to me. She lied to Tyler. And now she is pretending it is all a misunderstanding."

Elaine's face tightened. "Everybody makes messy choices. Don't humiliate your sister over a private matter."

Rachel pulled out her phone. Showed the credit alert. Showed the text screenshots Tyler had forwarded.

Elaine went quiet.

Sabrina's expression shifted. Tears first, then anger.

"I was trying to keep options open. Why is everyone acting like that is a crime?"

No one answered right away. Because for the first time, the room wasn't staring at what she had done. They were staring at the way she saw people.

Rachel told me Sabrina left 20 minutes later. Elaine stayed, but she was quiet the rest of the night.

By Monday, it was all over their family group chat.

Tuesday, Sabrina started posting on Instagram. Vague stories about control, being locked out, choosing yourself. Some of her friends sympathized in the comments.

I didn't respond. Megan told me not to.

Rachel corrected only the parts that involved her name and credit. Tyler privately messaged at least two mutual friends, confirming that Sabrina had lied to him about the status of our relationship.

The stories started colliding.

Someone who knew both me and Sabrina asked her directly, "Wait, I thought you two were serious. Didn't you say you were looking at houses together?"

Sabrina's reply: "It is complicated."

Another mutual: "But didn't you tell Tyler you were basically broken up?"

No answer.
