"I have lived here six years," Cedric answered carefully. "I am active duty, and you are making a mistake."

Keller barely reacted. "I don't care who you claim you are. Turn around."

The entire tone shifted. Cedric felt it immediately. The officers were not investigating; they had already decided he was a threat. Across the street, curtains twitched. Neighbors stepped outside, pretending to check their mail while secretly watching. One man slowly raised his phone to record from his porch.

"Officer, my ID is inside the house. You can verify who I am."

"Turn around!" Keller repeated, louder this time.

Briggs moved closer, his hand hovering near his taser. "Why are you resisting simple instructions?"

Cedric's eyes widened. "Resisting? I haven't moved."

"Then comply."

Cedric slowly turned around, his military training kicking in automatically: Stay calm. Follow commands. Avoid sudden movements. But humiliation burned through him. He could hear whispers from nearby yards.

"I knew something felt off about him," a woman quietly muttered.

Cedric heard it. It hit him harder than the shouting.

Officer Keller grabbed Cedric's wrists roughly and forced them behind his back, clicking the metal handcuffs tight.

"Too tight," Cedric said through clenched teeth.

"Good," Keller answered coldly.

That single word changed everything. Cedric realized this was no longer professional procedure; it was personal.

Briggs walked toward the front porch while scanning the windows. "You live alone?"

"My son visits on weekends," Cedric replied.

"What son?"

"My son, Isaiah."

"How old?"

"Twelve."
