Sandra Bullock breaks cover for first time in almost a year during LA outing with son

Sandra Bullock was seen in public for the first time in nearly a year during a quiet outing in Los Angeles on Wednesday, marking a rare appearance from the Oscar-winning actress. Bullock, 61, was photographed behind the wheel of her car with her 15-year-old son, Louis, riding in the front passenger seat. Their adored white dog, Sweetie, also made an appearance, poking its head out of the open window as they drove through the city.

The “Miss Congeniality” star has remained largely out of the public eye since the death of her longtime partner, Bryan Randall, who passed away in 2023 following a private three-year battle with ALS. Randall’s family confirmed his death in a heartfelt statement at the time, explaining that he had chosen to keep his illness out of the public spotlight.

Also, along for the ride was the family pooch, Sweetie.

The Oscar winner has rarely been seen in public since her partner’s death in 2023.

“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” the family said in the statement. “Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private, and those of us who cared for him did our best to honor his request.” They went on to express deep gratitude to the medical professionals who supported him, noting the dedication of “tireless doctors” and “astounding nurses” who became part of their extended family during his care.

The family also emphasized their need for time and privacy as they grieved and processed “the impossibility of saying goodbye.” ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis — often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease — is a progressive neurological disorder that gradually robs the brain of its ability to control voluntary movement.

He privately battled the disease for three years.

Bullock and Randall first crossed paths when she hired him as a photographer for Louis’ birthday celebration. At the time, Randall already had an adult daughter from a previous relationship. Bullock adopted Louis in 2010 and later expanded her family by adopting her daughter, Laila, in 2015. In 2021, while Randall’s illness remained private, Bullock spoke openly on “Red Table Talk,” calling him “the love of my life” and praising the blended family they had built together. “We share two beautiful children — three children, including his older daughter. It’s the best thing ever,” she said.

In 2023, Bullock honored Randall’s final wish by spreading his ashes in Wyoming’s Snake River near Jackson Hole, a place of personal significance for him. The intimate ceremony took place on what would have been his 58th birthday.

Bullock’s most recent public appearance before Wednesday’s sighting occurred at the Crypto.com Arena, where she was photographed enjoying a Los Angeles Lakers–Detroit Pistons game from a private box. She appeared cheerful, laughing and chatting with friends during the outing — a rare moment of visibility amid an emotionally difficult year.

This latest appearance suggests that Bullock may be slowly re-emerging after a period of private mourning, spending quiet time with her children and maintaining the low profile she has favored in recent years.
