Welcome Back, 2NE1: Gen 2 Girl Group Reunites for a 2024-2025 World Tour
On the night of July 21, on the official Facebook page of YG Entertainment, two pieces of information were continuously posted that surprised the Kpop music-loving community: 2NE1 officially reunited for a major event at the end of 2024, the company's other groups such as BLACKPINK and BABYMONSTER are expected to have a world tour in 2025, and the company will debut a rookie next year.
With their long-lasting influence and their name never leaving the roundtable discussing the most iconic girl groups in Kpop, it's hard to believe that the last time 2NE1 released a music product was exactly a decade ago. Come Back Home was released in 2014, if not counting the 2017 single Goodbye to say goodbye to fans.
When YG announced the news of 2NE1's disbandment in November 2016, the fan community around the world was in turmoil. YG’s first successful girl group, and arguably the ones who laid the foundation for female idols to follow, could not survive the “7-year curse”. They disbanded in a shocking and regretful manner, because the members themselves were not informed in advance about the group’s demise.
Since then, the 2NE1 members have focused on solo activities under different companies, but they still keep in touch with each other in their private lives. 2NE1 reunited on stage only once, in a surprise performance at the 2022 Coachella Music Festival. They proved their synergy despite not working together for 5 consecutive years when they made the performance a worldwide trend. After the concert, not only BLACKJACKS - 2NE1's fans - but also Kpop lovers hoped that the group would reunite to create unforgettable moments.
In response to the calls for a comeback for many years, YG Entertainment officially announced 2NE1's reunion in 2024 with a poster posted on the evening of July 21, immediately receiving 600,000 interactions on Facebook. The members also shared photos to firmly affirm: 2NE1 is ready to meet fans in a carefully planned activity, not a surprise attack like before.
Information about the comeback in 2024 was announced in detail: 2NE1 will have a 15th anniversary concert in 3 locations: Seoul, Osaka and Tokyo in October, November and December 2024 respectively. The tour is being discussed and scheduled with the members, and there will definitely be other destinations in the future, as they plan to extend their activities until 2025.
