One of the places she visited in the country was Baguio City, where she met a Filipino businessman for a blind date. Hilario was a man with a reputable background in academia and his professional career, but his skills in dancing caught the beauty queen’s interest. When their love grew further, the beauty queen decided to give up her Miss Universe title to marry Hilario.
Their love story was well-received, especially by Filipinos, to the point that it was turned into a movie titled Now and Forever. It premiered on Dec. 29, 1953, at Center and Palace theaters.
