6 Groups of People Who Should Avoid Eating Duck Meat — No Matter How Much They Crave It
Duck meat is a familiar and beloved dish in many families. It’s flavorful, nutritious, and highly beneficial for health. In 100g of duck meat, there are about 25g of protein — significantly higher than the protein content in beef, pork, goat, fish, or eggs. Duck meat is also rich in calcium, phosphorus, iron, and vitamins B1, B2, A, D, E, as well as nicotinic acid.
Duck can be cooked in many ways: boiled, roasted, grilled, made into salads, stews, or noodle dishes.
However, despite its benefits, duck meat is not suitable for everyone. The following groups of people should avoid consuming it.
1. People With Gout
Experts advise that those with gout should limit duck meat and other red meats. Duck can increase uric acid levels in the body, worsening gout symptoms such as joint inflammation, pain, and swelling.
2. People Who Recently Underwent Surgery
Individuals who have just had surgery should avoid duck meat because it may slow down recovery. Duck can place additional strain on the digestive system, and its fatty skin may cause itching around wounds and delay healing.
3. People With Poor Digestion
Although nutritious, duck meat is not ideal for those with digestive issues such as sensitive stomachs or gastric ulcers. Duck is harder to digest and may trigger bloating, discomfort, or worsen inflammation in the digestive tract.
4. People Trying to Lose Weight
Duck meat contains a relatively high amount of calories and fat, making it unsuitable for people who are overweight or trying to control their weight. These individuals should choose foods that are lower in calories and easier to digest.
5. People With Cardiovascular Problems
Those with conditions such as high blood pressure or heart disease should limit duck meat. Although duck is leaner than some meats, it still contains significant amounts of fat and cholesterol, which may negatively affect heart health if consumed excessively.
6. People With Persistent Cough
People who are frequently coughing or currently experiencing a cough should avoid duck meat. Duck may stimulate mucus production, making coughing worse. For individuals with severe sore throat or excessive phlegm, eating duck can make breathing more difficult. Avoiding it can help minimize irritation and support recovery.
