Anthony Joshua: What you may not know about two men killed in Ogun crash

As the world continues to come to terms with the tragic accident involving former World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua on Monday, attention has increasingly shifted toward the two men who sadly lost their lives in the crash.

The fatal accident occurred along the busy Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, around the Makun axis of Ogun State, a route well known for heavy traffic and frequent road incidents. While Joshua survived the crash, the loss of two key members of his team has cast a shadow over the incident and sparked widespread mourning.

Identities of the Victims

The two individuals who died in the crash were Latif, popularly known as “Latz,” and Sina Evovle. Both men were not only professional members of Anthony Joshua’s team but also his close friends and long-time associates.

Sina Evovle served as Anthony Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach. He played a vital role in Joshua’s physical preparation and was recently seen working with the boxing star ahead of the highly anticipated Jake Paul fight, just two weeks before the accident. Sina was reportedly full of energy and optimism upon arriving in Lagos with the team in the early hours of Monday. He shared videos of their arrival at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, moments that have since taken on a heartbreaking significance. Social media platforms have been flooded with tributes, especially after what is believed to be his final post surfaced only hours after his death.

Latif, also known as “Latz” or “Healthy_Mindset” on Instagram, was Anthony Joshua’s personal trainer and a trusted confidant. A dedicated physical trainer and a devout Muslim, Latif had built a loyal following of over 11,600 Instagram subscribers, where he often shared fitness content, motivational messages, and aspects of his faith. Following news of his passing, his Instagram page has been filled with hundreds of condolence messages from fans, colleagues, and members of the Muslim community around the world.

Although Latif’s nationality remained unclear at the time of reporting, Sina Evovle was originally from Syria. It has not yet been officially confirmed whether either of the men was carrying a British passport at the time of their death.

Details of the Accident

Anthony Joshua, aged 36, was reportedly on his way to visit family when the Lexus SUV he was riding in collided with a stationary truck shortly after 11 a.m. The impact was severe, leaving the SUV completely wrecked. Images released by Nigerian authorities showed the vehicle’s doors torn off and the roof badly damaged. A Mitsubishi vehicle, believed to be part of Joshua’s convoy, was seen parked nearby and appeared largely undamaged.

A total of five people were involved in the collision. Online footage captured shortly after the crash showed Joshua shirtless, visibly shaken, and sitting amid shattered glass inside the damaged vehicle. Despite the severity of the accident and the loss of two lives, Joshua miraculously survived.

Joshua had been seated behind the driver at the time of the crash. He was later seen in the front seat of an emergency vehicle, calmly speaking with officials at the scene. Family members and fans have since expressed shock and relief at his survival, offering prayers for his recovery and extending condolences to the families of the deceased.

Reports indicate that Joshua was on holiday in Nigeria and had shared a light-hearted video of himself playing table tennis just hours before the accident, making the tragedy even more sobering.

As investigations continue, tributes for Sina Evovle and Latif “Latz” continue to pour in from across the sporting world and beyond, honoring their dedication, friendship, and impact on those who knew them.
