Gemma Atkinson addresses having another baby with Gorka Márquez: ‘A third would be nice’

Gemma Atkinson Opens Up About Baby No. 3 — But Gorka Márquez Isn’t On Board
Gemma Atkinson is getting candid about the future of her family — and it turns out she and fiancé Gorka Márquez aren’t exactly on the same page when it comes to having another child.
The couple, who met on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2017 and officially began dating in 2018, have become one of the show's most beloved off-screen love stories. Since then, their relationship has flourished: they got engaged in 2021 and are now proud parents to two children — daughter Mia (born July 2019) and son Thiago (born July 2023).
But as their household grows busier, the question remains… is baby number three part of the plan?
Gemma and Gorka Discuss Expanding Their Family
In a recent episode of their joint podcast Lost In Translation, Gemma and Gorka opened up about their conflicting feelings regarding another child — an issue that many parents relate to (Daily Mail, entertainment analysis).
Gemma admitted the idea occasionally crosses her mind. “It does make you think, a third would be nice,” she told Gorka, hinting at the charm of a slightly bigger family.
But Gorka didn’t hesitate one bit. His immediate response was a firm: “No.”
Gemma playfully elaborated: “He’s like absolutely not.” Gorka then explained his reasoning: “Even two… no, it’s perfect now.”
Gemma acknowledged the chaos but also the joy of raising children: “It’s organised chaos, it’s fun. My sister’s got three kids but they’re all adults now.”
Still, Gorka held the line — insisting their family dynamic is “perfect” as it is, and repeated once more: “No more.”
Parenting experts note that such disagreements are remarkably common, especially once families hit the transition point from two to three children (The Guardian, family features).
Gorka Says “No” — And Gemma Has Mixed Feelings
Gemma was later asked whether she genuinely wanted another baby. Her answer was honest — and very relatable to many mothers:
“Well, no, I don’t want to be pregnant again, but if someone gave us a baby… I’d rather have another dog.”
Gorka joked that her indecision often confuses him:
“I never know with you, because one month you want another kid and then you want me to have the snip, so I don’t know which one.”
Gemma admitted her fluctuating feelings could be tied to perimenopause, a transitional phase many women experience in their 40s (BBC Health, expert commentary). She then suggested a vasectomy could settle the matter for good:
“Go and have the snip and then I’ll have no choice. Just do it, my brother-in-law had it done and he was fine.”
How Their Daughter Copes With Long Distance
Earlier this month, the couple also opened up about how their daughter Mia, now six, handles their long-distance lifestyle.
Gorka explained to Heat Magazine that their relationship began with distance, so it’s always been part of their rhythm (Heat Magazine interview recap).
“Some relationships, the couple are always together. So when they have to go away for a job… it’s harder. But for us, we did long-distance from the beginning.”
Gemma added that things were especially “difficult” during the pandemic, when the Strictly Come Dancing cast had to live in a bubble. At the time, Mia was only one, and Gorka’s absence for months was tough on the entire family (The Sun, entertainment interview summary).
When asked how Mia manages now that she’s older, Gemma said they rely heavily on FaceTime — though surprisingly, it was easier when she was smaller:
“She was younger then and didn’t fully understand the concept of time. Now she misses him more.”
Psychologists note that separation can be more emotionally complex for children once they reach school age and form deeper attachments (The Telegraph, parenting insights).
