Meghan Trainor details health scare that inspired her weight loss journey, Mounjaro use

Meghan Trainor recently opened up about her weight loss journey, revealing that the motivation behind it came after she developed gestational diabetes during her pregnancy. Speaking with Kayla Thomas on iHeartRadio's KIISFM, the singer explained how this condition was the catalyst for her transformation and the inspiration behind her new song, "Still Don’t Care."

Trainor, 31, reflected on the public's reaction to her changing appearance, especially since she first rose to fame with her hit "All About That Bass" at just 19 years old. "I’m getting a lot of hate online just posting who I am, and everyone’s like, ‘Why are you thin now? You were the 'All About That Bass' girl,’" she said. "I’ve been on a fitness journey since I got healthy — and it started when I was pregnant and I had gestational diabetes."

She went on to say that she wanted to be her strongest to be able to tour and lift her children “out of their cribs without pulling [my] back.”

Gestational diabetes, as defined by MedlinePlus, is a type of diabetes that occurs during pregnancy when the body cannot produce enough insulin to manage the increased levels of pregnancy hormones, often leading to high blood pressure. For Trainor, the diagnosis was a wake-up call that inspired her to prioritize her health for the sake of her family and career.

She shared that her goal was to be stronger, not just for herself but also to be physically capable of keeping up with the demands of motherhood and touring. "I want to be my strongest to be able to tour and lift my children out of their cribs without pulling [my] back," she said. As part of her journey, Trainor now strength trains three times a week and is focusing on holistic health, including hormone management and gut health.

Trainor has openly admitted that she was surprised and confused by the backlash she received as she became slimmer. "Now I’m obsessed with my hormones, my gut," she said. "I just want to feel good because this job is hard if you don’t feel good. But I got a lot of hate for being thin so it confused me and rattled me."

After the birth of her second son, Barry Bruce, in 2023, Trainor began to noticeably slim down, and her weight loss became a topic of public discussion. In early 2025, her transformation shocked fans, and shortly after, she revealed that she had started a wellness journey that included using Mounjaro, a medication used to help with weight loss. Alongside her fitness regimen, she also underwent breast augmentation and a lift.

Despite her physical transformation, Trainor has been vocal about the criticism she faces from her online detractors. Last week, she addressed these critics in a candid statement to Entertainment Tonight. "I’m literally for the first time ever, after having babies, taking care of my health to the highest level and I’ve never felt better and I look incredible," she said, adding, "I feel great and that’s when people attack me. I’m taking care of myself. I have to find a way to not be affected by that."

Trainor’s new song, "Still Don’t Care," addresses these very critics, acknowledging the constant criticism she has faced throughout her life. The lyrics reflect her frustration with being judged both for being "too thick" in the past and "too thin" now. She sings, “You could say what you want, say I’m so hard to like / You could tear me apart, but I sleep well at night (Woo),” and later in the song, "Say I’m doin’ too much, and you’re probably right / That’s the same s–t I’ve heard my whole life / Said I was too thick, then I got way too thin / And I try to stand out, but I wanna fit in."

She also underwent a breast augmentation surgery.

Through these lyrics, Trainor not only responds to her critics but also reinforces the importance of self-care and embracing one’s own journey, regardless of outside opinions. Despite the negativity, she continues to prioritize her well-being and encourages others to do the same. The song’s empowering message reflects her journey of personal growth, strength, and resilience in the face of public scrutiny.

Trainor’s candid approach to both her physical transformation and her mental health has resonated with many fans, showing that true confidence comes from within, no matter what others may say. As she continues to navigate the pressures of fame, motherhood, and self-acceptance, Trainor remains unapologetically focused on living her healthiest, happiest life.
